Made to feel like an idiot for sticking to the rules

So i live in Cheshire where local lockdown restrictions where put in place starting from today. I explained to family members that we will be sticking to the no meeting with other people rule and will hopefully see them in a couple of weeks. My parents, grandparents, friends etc were fine with this but my brother and sister were a bit abrupt with me. Db said i'm being ridiculous and that i didn't stick to the rules before ( i definitely did) so why now and that he won't be listening to BJ as he's an idiot. My dsis said that she won't be isolated on her own and will continue to see who she wants and feels i'm being over the top. Plus she made out that i was singling her out even though i told her i won't be seeing anyone nit just her. Do i believe everything that BJ says...No! But do i want us out of this local lockdown and nationally for cases to go down....YES. Why can't they just understand and respect my views.

I wouldn't stress it. You do you. I am literally the only one in the school playground who wears a mask for pick up (school kids are no-mask too as part of the school policy). I don't care.

Ignore them. Reply with ‘be part of the solution or else you are part of the problem’ ...!
People need to be kinder and respect your views.
As Whitty and vallance said yesterday, if you break rules you are not just putting yourself at risk but others too.
(And people can slag them off for all I care. Personally I don’t claim to know more than the top scientist and doctor in the country!)

Walk your own path ie following the rules.

I had a lot of aggro from OH during lockdown - we live separately and when we were not allowed to meet he used to pressure me to drive over and see him and have a bag of groceries in the car incase I was stopped by the police.

It's not uncool to follow the rules/law despite them being illogical in parts.

GRain5 · 22/09/2020 19:32

The government when they make rules will know that many people will just ignore them. They have probably already factored that into their thinking when coming up with the rules.

Sossen · 22/09/2020 19:33

Well that's it. I don't know why i let people's opinions bother me. My dc's schools both have cases of covid and they may be sent home for two weeks anyway should they be found to have been in close contact with any of the kids who test positive. My DM cares for my grandad and if my kids were to catch the virus they would inevitably pass it on to me, i could pass it to my DM who could then pass it on to my grandad. It just isn't worth the risk.

Don't let anyone make you feel like rubbish for doing what you think is best to keep yourself and your family safe.

You are not silly, just do what you thinks right, ignore all the idiots and do you.

We're in a north west lockdown area too. It's my dad's birthday this week and we were planning to go and see him (6 of us in total) but that can't happen now. My mum asked me after the local lockdown was announced, if we were still coming.

No. No we are not.

It's hard when no-one around you seems to be taking the rules seriously.

annabel85 · 22/09/2020 19:35

YES. Why can't they just understand and respect my views.

Because they're criminals.

Sossen · 22/09/2020 19:36

Aw bless them. I get what they're saying they'll likely miss seeing you but is it worth the risk? Saying that though at least your mum asked if you would still go to see them. My dsis and db just assumed we would be carrying on as normal lol.

Criminals? I wouldn't go that far. I mean yes they should stick to the rules but i can't make them.

We've been called ridgid and causing friction in the family for not going to a family get-together in my siblings house they thought it be ok if they split the families by half a week between eachother. I just said they can do what they want but can we respect each others wishes I'm from an area where there is a local lockdown they are not, I said I don't understand why you are mad at me for trying to protect you. 3 people in my family are high risk. Things are smoothed over now but I have a feeling they still believe they are right. It's definitely causing friction in families the restrictions aren't easy but I don't want be a cause anyone getting really sick.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/09/2020 20:00

We’re following them too, one because we don’t want the virus but also to protect others as we should all be in this together. Sadly, I’ve realised that many won’t comply and will do all I can to make sure my children turn into adults who do care about others.

annabel85 · 22/09/2020 21:19

@Bikinib0tt0m

Ultimately if people refuse to take it seriously, then that's their problem.
