Anyone agree? Because outside ours there is zero distancing and lots of standing about chatting.

Surely better to encourage social distancing and lack of chatting?

Dontstepinthecowpat · 22/09/2020 15:11

We aren’t allowed into the playground or even out of our cars so there is no chatting here.

cologne4711 · 22/09/2020 15:52

Why is there a lot of standing about? Why do people get there early? Get there on time so you don't have to stand about and leave straight away with child.

Eminybob · 22/09/2020 15:56

The head has asked us to wear masks on school grounds and most people comply.
We still do stand around and chat (socially distanced of course, there are marks on the floor) but only while waiting for classes to kick out, as soon as the kids are out we disperse quickly enough.

What if you’re not in a car?

Our school have staggered start and finish times which appear to be well adhered to and from today have implemented masks in the playground. It seems people are sticking to it and the headteacher was at pickup this afternoon thanking everyone.

I'm tempted to send a picture to the local paper about how well its working. We live in an area with a large percentage of British pakistani families and the local paper seems determined to blame them for the high cases in our area when its clear peoole of all cokiurs, creeds and backgrounds have been flouting the rules.

Keepdistance · 22/09/2020 16:00

The issue is mainly not the parents directly it's the kids in a small room with teachers too.
Yes parents could make it worse though.
My dc caught something at school within 8 days and within 2w all 4 of us had it. Handwashing isnt enough.
Lots of schools are seeing outbreaks rather than one case.

annabel85 · 22/09/2020 16:02

Masks should be mandatory indoors outside your own home.

Outdoors it's not really necessarily as long as you're sensible with social distancing.

Redolent · 22/09/2020 16:06

The risks of catching it outdoors remain very low (not non-existent). I really don’t think it’s a priority.

annabel85 · 22/09/2020 16:10

One of the main problems is as the weather turns for winter people will be indoors a lot more.

Outside isn't a big problem. If half a million people on a beach, or 10 thousand different BLM protests and VE Day conga lines haven't caused a spike, then this isn't a priority.

Stellaris22 · 22/09/2020 16:11

Depends on each school.

Our primary has staggered start times and head teacher and other staff outside monitoring with a one way system. It's working very well with social distancing (mostly) being followed. I take my mask because sometimes parents stand around chatting which is annoying, but the school are handling the situation brilliantly.

Pachonga · 22/09/2020 16:13

We’ve had mandatory masks outside in areas where you can’t social distance for months. right through the boiling hot Summer. From the worst place on earth for Covid to one of the safest, masks have really helped. Can’t believe Britain is so far behind on this.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/09/2020 16:17

Outdoors has far greater benefits than pulling out the average "here's one I used earlier" covering from your pocket and sticking it back on your face for 10 minutes.

Having DCs in different year groups means that "Covid Secure" phased drop offs have really benefited my social life. I now have the pleasure of 2x 10 mins per day yacking to somebody who I don't live with about something other than Pokemeon/ Minecraft/ the Economy for the first time in 6 months. I stand sensibly distanced at 2m which is far more useful than a germ-ridden face rag for tokenism and public display.

goldenlilliesdaffodillies · 22/09/2020 16:28

We have that rule at my child's school. Parents are ignoring it. The headteacher has now sent 3 letters telling parents to wear masks, drop and go and not to walk their dogs in the school grounds (Prep school). Parents are still ignoring it but strangely are demanding that the school shells out for a really expensive Covid testing machine, yet they not socially distancing or wearing masks and are standing in large groups chatting.

Pickagoddamnname · 22/09/2020 16:30

Masks mandatory at our school for dropping off

OpenlyGayExOlympicFencer · 22/09/2020 16:31

Nope. It's outdoors.

Absolutely agree.
