If there have been positive cases in your primary school, has there been in school transmission?

Seven cases between my kids’ two schools and not a single case of onward transmission to other kids. They’re both under ten, so obviously secondary is a different thing, but that seems pretty good going to me.

Difficult to tell really as 2/3 children are asymptomatic aren't they?

I'm assuming my child caught it at school since she hadn't been anywhere else.

MadameButterface · 22/09/2020 15:12

Not as far as i know, but like a pp says many dc are asymptomatic (the dc who had the positive tests were both asymptomatic and were only tested as their parents were ill)

Who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

Doingitaloneandproud · 22/09/2020 15:53

There's been a single case here, no other kids got it, (not even the child's siblings and they were tested-negative) the class was isolated for the two weeks when the child's positive result came through but no other child had symptoms. That was within the first week and nothings been heard since of any other classes being sent home so hoping it stays like that

Keepdistance · 22/09/2020 16:05

Where are the cases coming from then?
Anyway they are not testing so the whole year could have it and you wouldnt know!

Im actually seeing a lot with more than one case.
There were 120 i think outbreaks last week in schools which is a lot when there are no rests and theyve only been back less than 2w at that point.

From from reading mumsnet you can see lots of children are being sent in with "normal coughs" "coughs due to colds" "chesty coughs so it doesn't count" "coughs but they've got a runny nose too" - none of those children are being tested so no way to know what the true figures are.

Lots of these cases in schools seem to be being caught because children with cold symptoms are being tested, or because family members have symptoms.

Dotinthecity · 22/09/2020 16:22

Not a single case in any of our local schools so far.

Bananarama101 · 22/09/2020 16:27

Friend's DS' school was shut and a couple of years (his included) instructed to isolate as a teacher had tested positive. Couple of days later they both had symptoms and positive too.

Bansna to clarify - is that parent and child in addition to teacher?

Fortyfifty · 22/09/2020 17:25

I know they can't test every child in a school or class when 1 child tests positive, but I hope they're doing that in some schools for the sake of research and having better data. We do need to know what the transmission rate could be given many cases will be asymptomatic in younger age groups.

Yes, parent and child in addition to teacher
GingerLemonTea · 22/09/2020 17:41

2 children in our school in 2 separate classes. Both classes have isolated. 2 weeks have passed. No onward transmission that we were aware of.

This is way too sensible an idea to ever happen ☹️

I think the better tracking may be taking place in other countries, we’ll probably behave to rely on their data. For instance, incubation periods would suggest that the parent of a child contact of a positive teacher wasn’t infected via the teacher. But without track and trace functioning we’ll never know.

I meant the parent mentioned above, who tested positive a couple of days after the teacher.
