What will Nicola say?

I'm desperate to know what Nicola says today (I live in Scotland), what do you think it'll be?

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 22/09/2020 10:18

Probably much the same as England tbh. I am hoping she goes further. I think that England are still going down the herd immunity idea. Nicola has been clearly against that in the past.

neveradullmoment99 · 22/09/2020 10:19

I don't think things are as bad here yet. They will be in certain areas but not in all. Quite anxious about it for my children. Hoping they do the circuit break.

neveradullmoment99 · 22/09/2020 10:22

I think there will be restrictions on travel too unless its for work purposes that are essential.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 22/09/2020 10:23

Same as Boris but a little bit stricter.

Ecosse · 22/09/2020 10:25

Will be a full lockdown imo. She doesn’t need to worry about the economy so she can just blame West buster and demand more money.

MorrisZapp · 22/09/2020 10:26

Our measures have been much the same as rUK throughout, so no reason to expect much variance now.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/09/2020 10:33

I think restrictions on hospitality, maybe gyms too, no indoor visits, and back to restricted travel.

I can't see her going nuclear with a full lockdown at this stage, she needs to keep something up her sleeve for further down the line - but I do wonder if she will do localised shutdowns for the October holidays with everything closed then.

neveradullmoment99 · 22/09/2020 10:33

The rate of cases in the areas with local restrictions does seem to be falling, so I suspect no households mixing indoors will be extended. The exception is West Dunbartonshire where rate of cases is still increasing - if this is thought to be because of high volumes of people visiting the area then I suspect we'll see travel restrictions back.

I imagine we'll follow England with pub curfews.

I really hope play parks and the social distancing exemption for under 12s stay.

Ecosse · 22/09/2020 10:43

@raviolidreaming

Glasgow and Lanarkshire should have been locked down weeks ago- it was very clear that the vast majority of the cases were there.

A few cases in Aberdeen led to bars and restaurants being closed and travel restrictions imposed, yet people have been going in and out of Glasgow from all over for leisure.

It should not have been happening and I suspect we would not have the nationwide spread we now do if Sturgeon had been less scared of upsetting her support base in the west.

DumplingsAndStew · 22/09/2020 10:50

We have a few days booked away early next month - from one low-rate area to another. I'll be so disappointed if blanket travel restrictions are imposed throughout the whole country.

sorryforswearing · 22/09/2020 11:07

Whatever she says she will articulate it more clearly than Boris.

ApolloandDaphne · 22/09/2020 11:11

I do hope there are not draconian travel restrictions. My DH and I have organised to take my DD2 to London at the start of October as she is in a new job and needs to access the London office. She will be staying with DD1 in London so swapping from our household to her household. There must be some contingencies for people who need to move surely? Or am I just clutching at straws?

BillywilliamV · 22/09/2020 11:13

I don’t know but it will put the scuppers on my Mum spending her 80th birthday with her twin sister. They’ve not seen each other this year. DM very frail, sister has dementia. Not sure they’ll ever meet again at this rate!

raviolidreaming · 22/09/2020 11:25

Ecosse I agree with you in the most part. The issue with the Glasgow and Clyde health board is the vast area it covers though, as seen now in West Dun. This has complicated matters.

soloula · 22/09/2020 12:01

I think it'll be travel restrictions so no more travelling for leisure over a certain distance and tightening rules on households mixing. She'll need to keep more up her sleeve in case these measures don't work. I imagine they'll follow the curfew on hospitality that's been reported but worry with our culture that all that will happen is folk will get tanked up early to compensate and then come 10pm their judgment is impaired with drink and they end up going back to someone's house and we're in a worse position. I'm aware not everyone will do that, just a few, but enough to tip the balance in the wrong way imo.

PicsInRed · 22/09/2020 12:57

She'll say the word robust about 50 times.

FedHimtoTigers1990 · 22/09/2020 13:03

Ive heard a few whispers about no households mixing indoors. I hope this one is not true, my dd can go to school with her friends but can't even hang out with 1 at home.

The pubs and restaurants means my 2 adult teens having their hours cut or worse.

I fucking hate this.

BilboBercow · 22/09/2020 13:30

I'm thinking no mixing in households across the board, curfews on pubs but no businesses closing. I'm already in local lockdown and very few people are observing it tbh

RasberryRoyale · 22/09/2020 13:36

I think she will do the same as Boris. Curfews on pubs, telling people to work from home. (Although she said that in her speech yesterday)
I’m in a local lockdown area and I largely see it being ignored. So I’m not sure anything she says will be taken seriously.

DumplingsAndStew · 22/09/2020 14:37

Have watched the announcement and following discussions in the House of Commons this afternoon.

Anyone think Scotland will announce any further restrictions than that?

Char2015 · 22/09/2020 14:40

So she aims to keep schools and businesses open as much as feasible. Definitely sounds like schools may have to close further down the line IF cases do not drop.

ApolloandDaphne · 22/09/2020 14:43
  1. If you can work from home you should work from home.
  1. FACT advice reinforced and package of support for those self isolating. £500 for those on low income.
  1. Curfews for pubs, bars and restaurant. Close at 10pm
  1. Visiting other households indoors not permitted. Those living alone can still form extended household and grandparents can be used for childcare.
  1. Two families can meet outdoors. (There was more here about children and young people meeting up outdoors but I missed it)
  1. Travelling by car. Don't car share outside your own household.

I am not sure I got it all but that is the gist of the message.
