I can't keep up... WFH again

So everyone has just been pushed back into offices (me included) and now it's go back to working from home if you can.Complete U turn.

This is just becoming insane. I can't keep up... businesses can't keep up. I wonder if many business will go back to WFH or if they will ignore? I think the business I work for will ignore!

I get it, I really do.. but such confusing messages.

The wording I heard this morning was "if it does not impact the business" which gives a lot of leeway for companies to ignore it.

HoneyBee03 · 22/09/2020 11:12

I had a feeling this was coming. We're all back in the office but completely capable of working from home. Our employer has now given us the option and most of us are planning to keep coming into the office as normal.

Valleydad99 · 22/09/2020 11:12

My work will ignore it I reckon which makes it just part of the blame game going on in central government

AriettyHomily · 22/09/2020 11:13

I've just been told I am now WFH until March, it was January.

flowerlessorchid · 22/09/2020 11:19

I also think most companies will ignore it. Mine has already said in light of this morning's announcement that anyone who is already working in the office (of which I am one) is to continue to work on site. These are all people who were WFH fine until about three weeks ago when we were told to get back to the office. So this means no change for us.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 22/09/2020 11:20

Daily mail (i know I know i know) had COVID COWARD headlines a few weeks ago, apparently people were two ‘cowardly’ to go back to offices

Now its going to be your patriotic duty to WFH

Very confusing ( its not really confusing, the great british public will get the blame no matter what happens)

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 22/09/2020 11:20

Too

Bloody hell 😩

wendz86 · 22/09/2020 11:21

My work have emailed saying they will update us after announcement later but we only have a few people going in at the moment anyway.

timeforawine · 22/09/2020 11:25

I hope where i work will allow us to still come into the office the odd day, they've spent ages making it Covid guideline compliant (spaced desks, booking system so not too many people, one way systems, desks sanitised every evening etc)
We'll hear more tomorrow after tonight's announcement

cologne4711 · 22/09/2020 11:31

It's not helpful timing as I was meant to be going in tomorrow for the first time since March. I probably still can as the office will be quiet, but I don't want to go in for the sake of it if others decide not to go in. AAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH.

There was no need for the government to try to herd everyone back to the office in the first place. Working from home if you can (and wanted to) was an easy way of reducing the risk while those who wanted and needed to go to a workplace could.

You do realise that a few weeks ago, there were few infections and tiny numbers of hospitalisations and deaths, and now all figures are rising again. Things change. It was said months ago that restrictions/precautions would reduce/increase according to how the virus was spreading. That's exactly what is happening.
cuppycakey · 22/09/2020 12:07

Well if this is the extent of the new restrictions I am completely underwhelmed.

Hospitality accounts for around 5% of non household virus transmission so closing at 10 will have no real impact on infection but will impact people's incomes, particularly young people who tend to work in this sector.

WFH/don't WFH is just advisory. I doubt anyone will change their behaviour or business decisions based on this latest swing. My employer certainly won't, we are looking to WFH long term anyway.

Financial support for shielders to not have to return to work would have reduced death rates.

Adopting the two households along with the Rule of Six would also have an impact on socialising (way more than closing bars at 10) but we are stuck with this shit show.

Doesn't the T&T app get launched on Thursday?

Youngatheart00 · 22/09/2020 12:13

I’m really losing the will. We were supposed to be on a phased return to the office from the end of October after 7.5 months at home....but now that’s just been pushed back to end of March at the earliest. A whole year at home. It’s soul destroying.

Bwlch · 22/09/2020 12:21

I'm back in from the end of the month. I'd love to carry on working from home indefinitely.

PinkMacaron · 22/09/2020 12:39

I'd just started going in a day a week. Really enjoyed the change of scenery too, much more productive in the office.

BunsyGirl · 22/09/2020 12:39

We went back a couple of weeks ago but my employer was already considering making changes...probably because we’ve all become ill since we’ve got back!
