Flu vaccine and shielding

Just sat in a boots website queue for ages for them to say they will only give flu jabs to over 65yrs. If you are shielding or live with someone shielding where are you getting flu jab?

Ours are doing en masse at selected schools - said all adults and children eligible to go for their slot to attend school A or B .

Ludicrously nurse practitioner said they are considering providing mini buses for non drivers and the elderly .

Trying to get booked to local chemist instead !!

They should do car park vaccinations for people who are shielding.

Shielders have to go Indoors to have a vaccination.

Alex50 · 22/09/2020 13:12

I had my first flu jab last year, my work offered for free, I didn’t catch anything all winter, probably a coincidence but i’m Definitely booking one this year, i’m 50, healthy but normally get the odd cold, i didn’t get anything at all last winter, fingers crossed i’m lucky again

ClarasZoo · 22/09/2020 14:09

I was supposed to have an under 65 one at Boots today but they cancelled it with no explanation and told me to rebook, which I now can’t do as all the slots are 65 or over only. Suspect they are worried it’s running out and cancelling accordingly. So anyone under 65 booked with Boots, watch out for an email on the day of the supposed jab...

ClarasZoo · 22/09/2020 14:11

My GP told me to come back in back in November and they would do it if they had any left...

DarkMintChocolate · 22/09/2020 15:36

They should do car park vaccinations for people who are shielding.

I think our GPS are doing the mass vaccinations in a private car park.

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/09/2020 15:49

Our GP surgery is also doing a weekend mass outside flu nasal spray for kids and jab for adults

ticktackted · 22/09/2020 17:07

I went to an independent pharmacy and got it done yesterday, my GP surgery weren't doing pregnant women until I would be full term so seemed pointless!

MaryShelley1818 · 22/09/2020 18:21

@PeetaSue

Is it just that they haven't got the stock yet and so are doing over 65s first?

I am pregnant and have been told I likely won't have mine until October.

I am pregnant and had mine last Monday.
RoobyMyrtle · 22/09/2020 18:53

I've booked in at my GP. They're doing them outside in the carpark so I hope it's not raining 😁

FakeFlamingo · 22/09/2020 19:16

I called around 10 different pharmacies where I live to check & most were doing the flu jab, private & NHS. Except Boots who were booked until Oct end. Do try calling your local pharmacies & you will find one. Most in my area were offering walk in.

DamitJanet · 22/09/2020 19:20

I had mine in Boots as I do every year. I’m eligible for a NHS one though. My surgery only has stock for over 65s until November.

After reading this thread I decided to ring my GP for an appointment. The receptionist was reluctant to put me on the list when she found out I was 42. Told her I've been shielding since March and due to our area being in local lockdown the council have sent me a letter to advise me to get a jab.
So she had a look at the list from the council and said that as my name was on the council list they will get in touch with me soon to arrange an appointment for myself and the kids.
Let's see what happens 🤞

Lockdownseperation · 23/09/2020 16:08

@Begonias we managed to get NHS jab appointments with Tesco so I would definitely try and organise it yourself if you can.

How has everyone got on with shielding and jabs? Anyone had them outside?

PrayingandHoping · 02/10/2020 21:25

My doctors have been doing them outside in pop up gazebos

However I had my appointment in the surgery with my baby this morning (she gets one too) as it was simpler for them to do us together.

I have had many hospital appointments with her all through lockdown (she was shielded) and feel perfectly safe in hospitals and surgery's. Our trust has made Covid secure buildings

VictoriaBun · 02/10/2020 21:28

I qualify for the under 65 flu vaccine because of a health issue ( but wasn't in the shielding group ) Had mine at my local chemist session 3 weeks ago.
My dh ( also under 65 , and was in the shielding group ) is having his tomorrow at our Drs surgery and because of being in that group the appointments are staggered 10 minutes apart.

Viv0321 · 03/10/2020 11:25

Surgery hasn’t got them until end of month

WwMILd · 03/10/2020 17:38

DH (51) on shielding list got contacted by surgery last week and is having his on 24th.
