Anyone got any data on who’s being admitted to hospital?

Following on from bbc news this morning. Apparently 200 being admitted weekly with coronavirus. Mainly elderly but more 20-40 year olds than during the last time. This must still be an extremely small number or people in that age group but does anyone have any further info?

I would like to know this too. Not sure where/how you find this information

Layladylay234 · 22/09/2020 10:09

Yes I would too. Maybe the numbers and figures thread could help.

There's some countries like Turkey who provide all of this information and share a diagram over total number of cases a day, deaths, less serious cases, hospitalised cases and they write the age groups. I know as I was there a few weeks ago on holiday and saw it on the Tv in the hotel lobby and asked a waiter to translate it. I thought it was quite good. They also have it on social media that is shared by their Health Minister.

The NHS website shows it but there is a weeks lag.

Does it have an age breakdown? I've never been able to find that info

Also, if you have coronavirus, they apparently come to your home in full PPE gear, do the tests and tell your whole household to self isolate. They also do the track and trace system there and then and follow up on those who were in contact with those people to do tests and self isolate. This is what the waiter told me when we though the UK was dealing with it better 😂

Don’t know but a professor said yesterday that hospitals had seem more 20-40 year old women admitted than would be expected. Which goes to show that we aren’t “sacrificing the young to save the elderly” as some people seem to think.

We were never told much last time, people who focus on the lower number of deaths in the under 60s miss the point imo. They should be asking how many of them need hospital treatment instead.

Here it is by age, only English hospitals, age is at the tabs at the top. This was the beginning of September. They only release the data once a month

Everyone admitted to hospital is tested. You could need treatment for burns or a car accident but if you test positive for Covid you will be included in the X age of positive Covid cases in hospital. Considering the large age range of people admitted each day it is not surprising that some have Covid.

Jrobhatch29 · 22/09/2020 10:46

I wonder if it is because so many women in that age range work in care/education/public facing and may be particularly exposed rather than it suddenly becoming more dangerous for women age 20-40

Colycola · 22/09/2020 10:50

I went to the hospital on Sunday, with abdominal pains. I was tested for COVID on arrival.

The nurse that tested me told me she honestly didn’t know why the government were panicking people she said they have been getting around 1 positive test back per day.

Obviously I know that is just one snapshot of an opinion. A&E was empty I was seen within 10 minutes of arriving.

Marcellemouse · 22/09/2020 10:50

Yes the man discussing the 20-40 year old demographic was very vague. I got the feeling it was scare tactics.

Yes, have to admit this was my initial thought too. The scare tactics were aimed at younger people earlier in the year too

It’s not 200 being admitted weekly - it’s 200 a day (up from about 40 a day at the end of August).

From what I can see, admissions are group into 0-17, 18-64, which isn’t very helpful or precise. See attached data for the north west, which has been seeing more admissions of late. Maybe some has a clearer breakdown.

Anyone got any data on who’s being admitted to hospital?
