School positive test but no need to isolate

Hi,
My daughter's class teacher (primary) has tested positive over and was off few days before but the school have said er class don't need to isolate according to local public health team. We are in a high risk area where we have further local restrictions due to this. School aren't saying much and i can't get hold of anyone at the public health team. My partner is high risk so we have been following the rules properly so i'm very anxious and would like to know under what circumstances would close contacts not need to isolate.

Thanks

Has she been staying 2 meters away from all students ? If not they should isolate. My daughter wouldn’t be going in to class

Itisasecret · 21/09/2020 17:59

That doesn’t sound right. There is no way a primary school teacher is 2m away from students all day.

My ds is in the same situation.
The whole class is isolating.

I can only imagine she has said she's been 2 metres away and wearing her visor which she only did when getting closer to the pupils according to DD. But i would have thought us being in a high risk area they'd be more careful. I want to keep her off but i don't imagine they'd be very helpful with remote learning as it was awful during lockdown,

A visor doesn’t protect against transmission, I would phone public health myself.

We've had a letter from my son's school saying there has been a positive test in the school however no close contacts have been indentified and no staff or pupils need to self isolate but school will be deep cleaned over the weekend (also in local lockdown) - I just assumed it was maybe one of the cleaners etc who goes in when the kids have gone home

Badhairtoday · 21/09/2020 18:44

Yes i rang the local public health team who gave the advice first thing but i got referred on by the receptionist and they didn't get back to me so left another message. Yep the visor isn't full PPE just trying to think of their reasons.

If the last contact was more than 48 hours prior to symptoms starting then they don't need to isolate e.g. if symptoms started on Monday morning then they will look at contacts back until Saturday morning

Understandingnotignorance · 21/09/2020 18:48

A school in the Midlands were advised the same thing. A few days later several of the children displayed symptoms. It's in the news currently. I wouldn't send her in at all.

dementedpixie · 21/09/2020 18:49

When was the teacher last in class and when were their symptoms? Close contacts are those who were in contact in the 48 hours prior to symptoms starting

Badhairtoday · 21/09/2020 18:52

She went off Wednesday but mentioned sore throat to the class before. Didn't know about the 48 hour thing, where is that info from please?

From test and trace info on nhs:

you'll be asked for information including:

  • your name, date of birth and postcode
  • if you live with other people
  • any places you've been recently, such as a workplace or school
  • names and contact details of any people you were in close contact with in the 48 hours before your symptoms started (if you know these details)

THank you so much, they must have different rules for school possibly but i need to know their reasons just can't get hold of them. Wonder if PHE are the next call but can imagine them being wirse for getting back to people
