Just had 2 e mails . One to ask if we have a laptop/tablet or pc to use at home and another about school transport.
I'm now convinced we are going to have another lockdown

Nah, I think they're just checking just in case.
We got a letter asking about available technology and wifi accessibility.

I really think that closing schools will be a very last resort 🤞

RedRumTheHorse · 21/09/2020 16:25

Schools have been told to make contingency plans.

There will be a second lockdown if they can't contain the virus.

BlueGreyGreens · 21/09/2020 16:27

Schools definitely don't know any more than anyone else. It makes sense that they are planning ahead though given things are ramping up.

Mogtheforgetfulmum · 21/09/2020 16:28

They're just planning for the very worst, they also need to plan for bubbles/cases being sent home. I'm a teacher and we've been asked to make sure that work is available on Google Classrooms for any students working from home.

Shakirasma · 21/09/2020 16:29

They're just making back up plans. I work in a school office, closely with the head. Honestly schools dont know any more than anyone else.

Serendipity79 · 21/09/2020 16:42

I'm a governor, and my school is doing this even tho we have no confirmed cases but its contingency planning - they've got to be prepared for bubble/full closures

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 21/09/2020 16:44

My friend is a snr leader in a high school and said they are putting contingency plans in place incase they have to close at any point or deliver a mix of face to face and online learning.

Even now, Children who are self isolating can access all lessons via google classrooms (all lesson content gets put on there) and all homework is completed, submitted and marked on there so self isolating kids can do it and teachers don't have to handle books.

It makes sense schools want to know which kids have computers to access all of this so no one gets left behind. I don't think it's specifically because Boris is going to announce something tomorrow.

squeekyclean · 21/09/2020 16:49

Schools don't have any more information about what the Government is planning than we do. The school where my DH works has just sent out similar messages- it's so they know what they are dealing with if there is at any stage a need (or requirement) to close school/a bubble etc and do distance learning.

GinNotGym19 · 21/09/2020 16:53

It’s probably more for if there’s a confirmed case in the class and the whole class has to isolate for 2 weeks.
Our school said if there’s a confirmed case in the class then the whole class will do home schooling for 2 weeks

Bunnybigears · 21/09/2020 16:56

We have had a similar letter from the primary school but no cases as of yet. 2 cases in my older sons secondary school but they asked about Internet access, computers etc before the summer holidays.

Legallyblondeee · 21/09/2020 17:00

A friend of mine who’s DD goes to a different school has been emailed a link to home learning this afternoon.

Hopeful201 · 21/09/2020 17:06

Our school made sure we all had laptops for the start of the new school year. Partly because any illness will mean teacher or student wfh, so will need to be able to log on to keep up!

SpaceOP · 21/09/2020 17:14

I think it's absolutely just them being cautious - schools don't have a secret hotline to the government. But clearly some lockdowns or school/year group closures are possible and sensible schools are preparing.

Also, a lot of schools were really caught on the hop by covid. They didn't have the tools and processes in place to manage. And while that's understandable - one assumes their crisis planning was mostly focused around things like safety in school and managing issues such as the emotional fall out of a teacher having a heart attack in class etc - schools' reactions were a mixed bag. So, for example, the access to technology was a huge one - whether your school was doing zoom lessons/google classrooms or whether they were just sending emails with materials that then needed to be accessed online, the default assumption that all children have access to this was proven to be wrong and it didn't make schools look good.

Bulblasagne · 21/09/2020 17:25

Op where are you? Wales? Skotland?
Many schools did this prior to the march lock down, and they were proactive making sure teachers and students could get on line. Some places did this, with about 45 mins training. In other schools it's taken months and months 😂😂...

So maybe it's just a little forward thinking...

MarshaBradyo · 21/09/2020 17:27

We had that a while ago. From the LA however

GameSetMatch · 21/09/2020 17:54

Yes we had had an email from school today giving us passwords for online learning, we didn’t have anything during the first lockdown so anything is a step up! I don’t know if it’s just coincidence though.

Feellikedancingyeah · 22/09/2020 09:47

Thankyou everyone . Sensible views

We got passwords for online learning last week. DD came home today as a child in her class was positive. All her class have to self isolate for 14 days. Work will be set online, which she is used to as all schoolwork was done online back in March.
We were asked about technology at home by the primary school too just incase they have to send bubble home.
