Priority list for covid tests

So much for the gov caring about children's education, they are not even on the list for testing priority.

Yeah dont like the sound of that. Teachers may be ok, but if not in a high area unlikely to get a test= no shutting bubbles.
We are in SW and yet already 4+ schools with cases and 2 at least with more than 1 case.
Also means even in unaffected areas people will have to have 2w off. I can see a lot just chancing it because they cant get tests.

SomnolentSekhmet · 21/09/2020 16:22

Well, it's one way to make it look like the case numbers are stabilising and that covid doesn't affect schools as they were so keen to promote. Honestly, you couldn't make this shit up.

Orangeblossom7777 · 21/09/2020 16:28

you should not get tested if you do not have COVID-19 symptoms, even if one of your contacts or household members has tested positive

Hmm. but we know could be contagious even without symptoms..

From NEU (school union):

Gavin Williamson wrote to heads on 7 September, saying: “I want to reassure you again that all your staff and pupils have access to testing if one of them should develop Covid-19 symptoms.”

He lied.... which really shouldn't surprise me, but when it comes to a child's education and them potentially missing out on a great deal of education from not being able to access tests this is really shocking.

We had an email from the school's academy trust last week saying send them in as usual unless they are so ill as you could previously have kept them home (prior to covid) and things like hot to touch, constant cough, etc - last week, quite surprised.

Hardbackwriter · 21/09/2020 16:39

Are nursery staff 'teachers'?

Augustbreeze · 21/09/2020 16:46

@Hardbackwriter some may be, particularly in those attached to schools.

Hardbackwriter · 21/09/2020 16:48

I was just wondering because I was watching something on the news the other day about nurseries saying they risked needing to shut down because of testing delays for staff, as it was meaning too many were off self-isolating while waiting for test/results to maintain their ratios.

badlydrawnbear · 21/09/2020 17:02

Well, that's crap for the obvious reasons about schools etc, but, as someone who works frontline in the NHS in an area of high infection rates (as in we have enhanced restrictions on meeting people etc), I was surprised to read that NHS staff get tested asymptomatically in' areas of higher prevalance'. First I had heard of that.

fifteenisthemagicnumber · 21/09/2020 17:12

@Orangeblossom7777 it's not realistic or practical to keep children at home for every sniffle etc. I'm glad our school has said the same, send them in if you would have done pre COVID, unless they have a cough, temp etc.
