Wasn't it last week that BJ said it was safe to go back to work?

Or am I mistaken?

Time is playing tricks on me, perhaps ...

But if it was only just last week - well, what the hell are they playing at?

Has he ever said that it was safe to go to work? He encouraged people to go back to their offices in order to boost the economy. Nothing to do with safety.

It was more than a week ago though. At least 3 weeks I think, but wasn't really paying attention. Despite working in a Government department my husband knew he wouldn't be going back for months and is working from home for the foreseeable.

MyPersona · 21/09/2020 17:16

He only ever said if it is safe to do so. If your employer cannot make the environment safe then no, you shouldn’t be going back to work. No one ever said different.

wedidntstartthefires · 21/09/2020 23:20

He never said it was safe because it isn't 'safe' but he wants us all to buy train tickets and pret sandwiches - then go straight home, watch the Disney channel, get a takeaway, rinse and repeat.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 22/09/2020 00:44

He has also said that companies should have taken precautions to make working environments Covid-secure. He is not advocating people return to workplaces where safety precautions have not been made.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/09/2020 00:57

nope, complete utter figment o f your imagination, along with a big red bus with a slogan, an oven ready deal, WA that wasn't great when it was signed at all.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 22/09/2020 00:59

Well if he did I'm sure it'll be denied and swept under the carpet with zero repercussions a la Barnard castle

EmMac7 · 22/09/2020 01:07

This reversal was so ridiculously predictable. There’s a reason that even Sweden is advising its citizens to work from home if possible until at least next year!

DarceyDashwood · 22/09/2020 04:42

It was early August that the WFH if you can line was dropped I think. I’ve loved being back in the office and seeing colleagues but I’m actually hoping we are told to go back WFH if I’m honest. Out office is very small with no windows and it does concern me (esp as some people just walk up to my desk with no thought of staying 2m away). With cases rising and schools back I’m looking to reduce risk where I can and I am able to WFH even if it isn’t necessarily ideal.

Well yes, because they can't work from home as effectively. But by those who can staying home surely it is also safer for them.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 22/09/2020 06:52

It wasnt a question of work from home or not. Where people are returning to work in most cases it has to be made covid secure. (So spacing in offices, perspex screens, distancing etc.)
