Taxis to test centres WWYD?

NC for this this. Dd is 12 and school have offered a taxi to a test centre if I can't obtain a test in the post. The nearest centre is about 10 miles away. As a single parent I'd have to take the little ones with us too in the taxi. I'm ECV and have a cracking cough myself and it doesn't seem right that we should get in a taxi and put the driver at risk or risk catching something from him or her. Is this something schools are offering in general? What would you do?

No, I wouldn’t

Buzlightyear1 · 21/09/2020 10:02

No please don’t do this. My dad is a taxi driver. He works a lot with hospital as he takes blood when needed and dr etc. So already at risk. You have symptoms so should isolate I no it’s hard to do but these people have to make a living to. Also they have vunrable people to protect.

halcyondays · 21/09/2020 10:05

No, I wouldn’t. Not with symptoms. Only ok if you were having to get a test done before going into hospital or something.

OverTheRubicon · 21/09/2020 10:07

No I wouldn't. It's a horrible position to be in - can you call again, or otherwise you could try contacting your MP to discuss how you will need to isolate and risk your job etc etc or otherwise need to go out and work anyway and hope they pick it up...

If you have the money there are private companies that come to your door and give you the result in 24 hours. It's over £100 which you may not have, but if there's no other chance of a test it could end up cheaper than not being able to work, or worth using some Christmas money to make for a bearable 2 weeks!

Augustbreeze · 21/09/2020 10:11

I wonder if school have actually considered the risk to taxi drivers.

Although I'm pleased that they're willing to help children access testing!

FloreanFortescue · 21/09/2020 17:15

That's crazy!

HampsteadHeathen · 21/09/2020 17:20

That's so wrong. I would speak to the headteacher!

Char2015 · 21/09/2020 17:20

Just No.

WrongKindOfFace · 21/09/2020 17:48

It would be better for them to give you one of their 10 tests if you have no other way of accessing one.

rainbowunicorn · 21/09/2020 18:12

That is bloody ridiculous. I honestly can't beleive the stupidity of it. What about the poor taxi driver who has to travel 10 miles with potentially infectious people. The school are bloody idiots.

testingwoes · 21/09/2020 18:26

Thank you all. I have now arranged to go and pick up a postal test from school tomorrow as they have said I can do that. The member of staff said loads of parents are struggling to get their dc tested. I suppose they don't want people playing the system but getting a taxi would be bloody irresponsible.

If your DS has symptoms then you should not be going out either.

The entire house must isolate.

So no, you cannot collect from the school.

How do people still not know this?!?

Can the school post it to you / drop it on your doorstep.

This. Your school seem utterly irresponsible! Someone needs to come post it through your letter box with no contact!!

I've already been isolating for 15 days. Dc was on day 14 when symptoms started fit her. Me and ds have been unwell for over 2 weeks now.
