Dd came home from school last Thursday and started sneezing by Friday morning she had a cough, I presumed it was the usual back to school cold, Friday night I started coughing which kept me awake most of the night mine has now turned in to a chesty cough, Saturday night ds threw up and hes been coughing ever since with the occasional sneeze.
Dp phoned his boss to tell him and because dp had his phone on loud speaker I heard him call me a hysterical hypochondriac and its because of people like me why genuine people can't get tested, dp is not allowed to isolate and has gone to work as normal, even my sister says ive overreacted.
It feels I can't do right for doing wrong and now I don't want to get the tests done.

I believe your DPs boss is wrong making him go to work. My understanding is if anyone in the household shows symptoms everyone must isolate until a negative test. Colds are one thing and don't require a test but the coughing isn't good. A cough is on the symptom list. I don't think you've over reacted, just following advice

Movinghouse2015 · 21/09/2020 03:58

Your DD cannot return to school with those symptoms without a negative test. You have done nothing wrong.

They are very clear if you have any symptoms and are unsure, get a test.

Ohwowanother · 21/09/2020 04:21

We are in this position. DS1 has a cold but has developed a cough. We have booked a test and all have to isolate. You have done the right thing.

Sounds like your DP boss is a complete dock tbh

minisoksmakehardwork · 21/09/2020 04:26

Your dp and his boss are pricks and it's because of people like them that the virus is spreading the way that it's is.

You have the continuous cough which is one of the main symptoms. Get that test to either put your mind at rest or to show your dh and his boss that he needs to be home too.

It may well just be a cold you all have, but I'd not be taking the chance with the symptoms you've described.

SeaMayweed · 21/09/2020 07:37

You've done the right, responsible thing but your DH's boss has not.

Feminist10101 · 21/09/2020 07:41

A CONTINUOUS cough - 3 bouts of coughing (ie. not just 3 single coughs) in 24 hours or about of coughing that goes on (continuously) for an hour or more. Not just any cough.

Didiplanthis · 21/09/2020 07:45

OP has already said her cough kept her awake al night ... that sounds pretty continuous / 3 bouts !!

Feminist10101 · 21/09/2020 08:08

I was correcting a PP (hence the quote in bold) not making any comment about the OP. Wink

AlexaShutUp · 21/09/2020 08:13

Surely any cough that is enough to say "I have a cough" meets the definition of continuous, doesn't it? Three bouts of coughing in 24 hours isn't much. Do people actually say that they "have a cough" if they just cough a few times?Confused

HappyBumbleBee · 21/09/2020 08:19

Your husband caller you a hysterical hypochondriac or his boss did?
Whichever one did needs a whack with the frying pan!
If it were your hubby’s boss, did he defend you?
You have absolutely done the right thing getting appts to get tested and I hope you get them done and all is well x

ineedaholidaynow · 21/09/2020 08:24

And gastro symptoms can be a symptom of the virus in children.

Giveronyoursausage · 21/09/2020 08:28

Glad to see im not overreacting in regard to dp he did want to stay off hes worked all through lockdown and only had a week off since last December hes shattered but due to furlough there is no one to cover his job.
We are all still coughing so I know I'm doing the right thing.
My mum died during lockdown she went in to hospital with non covid symptoms she was put on a ward with covid patients she died alone 36 hours later and I would hate to think that I contributed to another family going through that because I was unsure about getting tested so maybe thats why I'm being extra cautious and doing my bit to help stop the spread.

Sorry to hear about your mum, OP. Flowers

You're doing the right thing, but your DH should have put his foot down and refused to go in as well. Sadly, there is a risk that he may have already passed it on to sometime.

A bout is more than a cough or 2. It would probably be called a coughing fit.
DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 21/09/2020 08:44

We are in a similar situation (minus the dickhead boss). But after five days of trying I have not been able to book a test. As you have to be tested by day five it's two weeks of no school/ working from home. I cough and cough and cough but also so have cold like symptoms so it's probably a cold. I wish I could have booked a test to know for certain.

Giveronyoursausage · 21/09/2020 08:52

I got a test slot straight away I accidentally pressed the home test even though it said there was none available and about 6 different test sites came up so I booked my nearest one and got a slot for this morning.

You did the right thing ok. Was it your husband that called you those horrible names?

Giveronyoursausage · 21/09/2020 09:01

It was his boss my dp had his phone on loud speaker so I heard it all his boss just told him to keep his distance from other people and wear his mask and until we get our results he's got to go in as normal he's a lorry driver so he's on his own most of the day and because he's the only one who starts early he doesn't come into contact with anybody in the yard until he finishes so that's his bosses excuse.

OP posts:
Mindymomo · 21/09/2020 09:08

You both have symptoms so your husband should stay at home until you get results. Unfortunately if you don’t know the rules, his employers will tell him to go in. Good luck with the tests.

AlexaShutUp · 21/09/2020 09:10

Yes, I agree, but I just wouldn't say I had a cough unless I was coughing to a significant degree. I'm not sure I'd even notice a cough or two here and there, certainly not to the extent that I would start counting episodes!

Feminist10101 · 21/09/2020 09:16

Oh, any mild tickle has people running for bloody Covid tests now. Never mind the NHS staff who actually have symptoms and need testing........
