Do you actually think we will go into a second lockdown?

As in schools, non essential shops, hospitality etc all closed.

If I'd have heard this speculation last month I wouldn't have entertained it, especially with how reluctant Boris was to lockdown in the first place.

Yet people on here sound so sure it's about to happen again. I'm not arguing against the possibility, I'm just shocked.

The economy cannot survive another period of the type of lockdown we saw in March, surely not.

The organisation that manages out local leisure centres (fusion) appears to have gone bust meaning our gyms/pools never reopened after lockdown, they were a huge organisation and already v successful. I fear this spells curtains for many businesses if it happens Sad

The vast majority of workplaces were never ordered to close in March. Many did so because of the knock-on effects of lockdown- you can not operate if no one is buying anything.

My work place could (in theory) have stayed open but we had no orders from early March til mid june....

Although my DH is SE and did go to work sporadically (he didnt have a lot to do) during lockdown - it somehow got lost in translation that during lockdown if you were unable to wfh, you could go to work even if you weren't a key worker.

It is a well known fact that covid is nocturnal

It's not about that, it's stopping people getting drunk and then hugging each other. Yes you can get drunk in a shorter period of time, but it does help a bit, and also reduces the amount of time people are hanging around in town centres etc.

I can't see why we'd need another lockdown when other countries seem to be managing without one. Unless they really are conniving enough to combine it with a no deal Brexit. Well nothing would really surprise me with this lot.

As for schools not closing, I was convinced they'd open again after May half term and at least for Y11 and 13 and I was totally wrong about that so I am not going to predict anything. They don't seem to care about the older teens at all. Presumably because they're not typical Tory supporters.

Not sure they really care about younger kids either, but they know parents need childcare to work, and schools = childcare.

If the numbers go up schools will close because there will be too many teachers off sick.

If unis are told to teach remotely some may go under as they'll lose a year's worth of hall fees. Even if they stay open the cost cutting to recoup will impact on degrees for years to come with staff not being replaced, etc.

Sorry to hear all of that, apart from that everyone at your establishment is still in one piece, that's very good news!

6 visitors?! Presumably not all at same time?

(I still can't visit my brother in supported living, have had one SD walk with him in Aug and he's too ill for that now.)
