Testing and isolation, can she go back to school?

Child went to an activity where they check temperatures. Although she seemed well, she showed a slightly raised temperature. Having become aware that she had a temperature, parent arranged a test and family isolated.

Meantime it became apparent that she had a water infection, the likely cause of the raised temp, and GP prescribed antibiotics. Child no longer has a temperature or any other symptoms.

The test result has come back inconclusive with instructions to have another test. So, she (and the family) should isolate until the second test result is received, although the symptoms that led to the first test are long gone.

Would you?

We're in a similar boat and not sure what to do. DD has tonsillitis and so a fever for a few days, though now improving on antibiotics. Test results due anytime now, and mostly got the test for nursery but now wonder what to do if inconclusive. I feel you should be able to follow common sense with children, given they get high temps a lot and if explained then you shouldn't have to worry. At the same time, they can't wear masks so could put people at risks

I dont think I'd send another test. Does she have a temoerature anymore? Id imagine the original temp was due to the UTI. Temp should be above 37.8 for testing.

Test again

It's up to you if you arrange another test. Remember tests have a time limit for them to be reliable. Either way still need to isolate for the duration or until a negative result. Unfortunately, we can't rely on common sense at this time, but can rely on results from any tests done.

Of course you need to remain in isolation. I believe inconclusive typically means 'probably covid' and is used when there is not quite a high enough level of whatever they are looking for in the sample but where it is detected in levels that are unusual for other causes.
