Minimal mask wearing and compliance with distancing. Can’t we just put a Simpsons dome over there?

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/sep/20/covid-scepticism-behind-high-bolton-infection-rate-says-local-mp

“... a number of high-profile people in the area had been using social media to share conspiracy theories about the virus. “It is all over Facebook, in local forums, with people saying coronavirus is not true and it is a way for the government to take control of us all. It’s so strange but it’s really began to take hold,” she said.

Earlier this week it was reported that the number of people being admitted to hospital in the town with confirmed or suspected coronavirus was rising. Hospital chiefs also said they were seeing an increased number of patients under-65 being admitted, with some in their in 40s and 50s, a significantly younger age group than at the peak of the pandemic in April and May”

The rise in cases there is down to one person who failed to self isolate after returning from a holiday abroad and went on a pub crawl with mates. You couldn't make it up.

But does this Bolton person exist I have my doubts , they are keen to put blame on others rather than their selves.

AdoptedBumpkin · 20/09/2020 19:43

Surely most of Bolton are not that stupid?

x2boys · 20/09/2020 19:47

I don't disagree @WiseUpJanetWeiss and the guidelines have been very unclear ,and whilst the Dominic Cummings fiasco was ridiculous and he should have been sacked ,most people who use Dominic Cummings as an excuse were not following the guidelines anyway ,I'm just infuriated my son was back at school for just a week before having to self isolate for two weeks the minority in Bolton are spoiling it for the majority it's sickening as a Bolton resident.

Yes, similar in Manchester. Lots don't believe others think its just not that serious. An (apparently) educated colleague told me that "we've just all got to get it" last week.

x2boys · 20/09/2020 19:52

Most are not but there is a significant minority that are IME ,@AdoptedBumkin

Yep I live in a similar town to Bolton that is in the top ten. The fb pages are full of conspiracy theorists and they are getting more vocal against ‘sheeple’ who wear masks and follow the rules.
I am sad when i see one by one the friends on my fb list start sharing free thinking posts and dismissing the science.
Most are brexiteers but a few are actually leftie types who i thought would have more brains about them. I tell myself these people maybe dont have any medical knowledge so dont understand the facts as easy.

My son isn't academic he's in year nine he really needs to be in school now to have any chance of passing a few GCSE,s ,I'm. Just so pissed off about all of this and wish people could see the bigger picture

Another Boltonian: The stupidity of some people here is unbelievable - you only need to read the comments on the Bolton News to know that.

People I once believed to be fairly sensible are posting all sorts of shit on Facebook - I probably have about 20% of people on snooze at the moment.

I think the problem is that in the first wave there weren’t many cases up here. When we went into lockdown I didn’t know of a single person with Covid symptoms. During lockdown I knew of 2 and I work in healthcare.

Now I know of 5 in the last 3 weeks who’ve tested positive. The rules imposed here don’t make sense, close pubs etc but we can still travel out of area to pubs.

People are just weary. And the Bolton lad who got the blame for his non-quarantine party has never actually had symptoms. He’s been used as a scapegoat.

We are being very sensible and abiding the rules. I’m fed up of those not doing so and fear how it will impact on my children if they have to isolate due to cases in school. But I’m also fed up of those preaching how dangerous schools are and blaming that for the issue. We should have had more regional lockdowns initially and earlier as people are now fed up as am I.
