Been in side room in hospital for 4 weeks, tested positive

I am shocked to the core, been in hospital for 4 weeks having treatment after stem cell transplant
Swiftly moved to side room after a couple of days when I got clostridium difficile and the only people I have seen have been doctors and nurses wearing PPE.
Just been told that I have tested positive for covid and that they are moving me to a side room on the covid ward
I am immunosupressed and to say I am shit scared is an understatement

I’m really sorry, it must be very scary. Have you had any visitors or has it come from a staff member?

Viciouslybashed · 19/09/2020 16:04

I am so sorry to hear this, I am not surprised you are scared. Hopefully it will be a mild case or better still a false positive.

AlexaShutUp · 19/09/2020 16:07

I'm so sorry. That must be really scary. I hope you will find that it's only a mild case. Being immuno-suppressed increases your risk, but it's by no means a given that you'll become seriously ill with it. Try to stay positive.Flowers

Do you have any symptoms at the moment?

Cornettoninja · 19/09/2020 16:09

Shit scared is completely understandable but you are in the absolute best place. You will be monitored closely and receive any treatment you need promptly. If you have to have this it’s much better to be in hospital rather than second guessing every little symptom at home.

Saying that I bet your confidence in that hospital has been severely dented. Please try and keep as calm as you can. Do you have distractions available?

I wish you a very swift recovery Flowers

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 19/09/2020 16:10

Thanks You poor woman. Keep posting.

IHateCoronavirus · 19/09/2020 16:12

I am so sorry to hear this op. How are you feeling in yourself?

Do they know how you became infected?

Redolent · 19/09/2020 16:12

I’m so sorry to hear that :(. I hope you’ll receive the best and most prompt care.

Did they test you because you had symptoms or was it routine?

Bagelsandbrie · 19/09/2020 16:14

I’m so sorry to read this. I am in the clinically vulnerable group too and I can only imagine how scared you must be. I hope you don’t develop severe symptoms and feel better soon.

SomethingM1ss1ng · 19/09/2020 16:33

You feeling scared is totally understandable, as a pp mentioned you are in the best possible place. Hoping that you feel better soon...please keep ‘talking’ in this forum if that helps

Venicelover · 19/09/2020 16:46

That must be so difficult OP. Do you have any symptoms? Hopefully, it will be a mild case or you are asymptomatic. Get well soon. Keep posting to take your mind off it a little bit.

Clariana · 19/09/2020 16:48

@Cornettoninja, seems a strange thing to say, the OP is in the best place.

Surely the OP's point is that she has been infected with coronavirus whilst in the hospital, so after a nasty bacterial infection, she has been infected with Covid-19? The hospital doesn't sound like a great place!

But OP, the odds are very much in your favour, please try not to worry!

Jeremyironseverything · 19/09/2020 16:49

Bless you.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 19/09/2020 17:13

I'm so sorry and understand your worry. I know you must have contracted the virus in hospital but at least you are in the best place for treatment. They do know so much more know than back in March so you'll be getting the best care.

Keep posting for support. You aren't alone. Flowers

Jrobhatch29 · 19/09/2020 17:16

Of course she's in the right place. Where would be better for her?

OP I hope you get better soon. Keep us informed xxxx

Jrobhatch29 · 19/09/2020 17:16

Best place*

notsodimwit · 19/09/2020 17:26

How worrying for you and your family OP Flowers Hopefully you have a very mild case.

FallingIguanas · 19/09/2020 17:36

I'm so sorry Ceecee. It is totally understandable you feel scared and dealing with this after already going through C.Diff, you must be reeling and feeling very vulnerable. What have you been advised by the staff about having a member of family visit?

frumpety · 19/09/2020 17:55

I would want another test before moving, if you have no symptoms. It would seem strange that you have caught it from the minimal contact with staff all wearing PPE ? does that include the domestic staff too ? I would presume it does ?

frumpety · 19/09/2020 17:56

You haven't had any other visitors or left the sideroom/ward ?

yeOldeTrout · 19/09/2020 18:01

i thought being immuno-suppressed was helpful, means less risk of cytokine storm. Wouldn't surprise me if you never have any symptoms, too.

Pinkshrimp · 19/09/2020 18:03

There was an immunosuppressed poster on here who had Covid in April, they posted on another thread the other day so they recovered. No point saying try not to worry, it would be impossible not to, even if you weren’t immunosuppressed! but the staff will be keeping a very close eye on you.
Wishing you a swift recovery & I hope it’s a mild case with not too horrendous symptoms Flowers

Jonoula · 19/09/2020 18:19

You sound young and if you’ve had a stem cell transplant you’re tough too. Let us know how you’re getting on. All the best.

frumpety · 19/09/2020 18:37

You have enough on your plate without this, don't you, wishing you a speedy recovery and hope you get to go home soon.

Cornettoninja · 19/09/2020 18:43

@Clariana would you rather be vulnerable with corona at home or vulnerable with corona in a hospital where there is oxygen support to hand and access to prescriptions for steroids should it come to that?

I’m sure the OP is upset with the hospital as she’s acquired two nasty infections whilst in there that doesn’t take away from the fact they have resources OP simply won’t have access to at home.

Squiz81 · 19/09/2020 18:45

Would they consider another test in case it’s a false positive?
