Boris weekend talks

Likeacatoutofhell · 19/09/2020 14:52

I keep reading that Boris is having ‘talks’ this weekend about the next steps and restrictions that are to come in imminently.

What do you guys think it’ll be? I’m thinking a complete ban on house & garden socialisation country wide and only allowing meeting up to happen outdoors. Same as most of the North right now. I also think pubs will be given a curfew next week or the week after.

RMarieClaire · 19/09/2020 15:22

A curfew is a good idea. A shame about indoor socializing. I get the economy thing but I don't want to socialize with my parents at the pub. Not just because they live 3 hours away. I want to see them indoors where I feel safest and where it's easiest for us with our daughter. But I get the economy thing.

I think there will be shielding reintroduced too. Cruel but makes sense. I guess better to lock down now and have a hope of having Christmas together.

TokyoSushi · 19/09/2020 15:31

I think similar to the local restrictions, i.e. No household mixing and 10pm closure for pubs and restaurants, but for the whole country.

I think it's probably a bit stable door and bolting horse though and were on the road to a short sharp lockdown, potentially involving the closure of pubs and restaurants, although when they reopen, I suspect the same thing will happen again.

It really is an unsolvable problem until we have a vaccine.

WaffleDogg20 · 19/09/2020 15:40

Well according to the sun we will have a full lockdown for two weeks with shops, pubs and restaurants closed fully..

kimlo · 19/09/2020 15:41

I think that the rest of the country will be put under the same restrictions as the northeast. Then the pubs will be told to close. Then the high schools will go to 2 weeks on 2 weeks home learning.

Whirlwind14 · 19/09/2020 15:43

I think a ban on mixing with other households will be upon us imminently...

I’m dreading it. How to explain to my 3 year old that we can’t even have Nanny and Grandad in our garden anymore or play with friends at the beach...

I get that something has to give but surely limiting things to seeing family outside Is less risky than seeing them inside a pub or restaurant.

Such dark, scary times ahead. I’m dreading the next few months...

Likeacatoutofhell · 19/09/2020 15:52

@Whirlwind14 we are allowed to mix with other households OUTDOORS here. Just not in private gardens. So you can still go to the beach but in a group of no more than 6 people.

OP posts:
kimlo · 19/09/2020 15:55

@Likeacatoutofhell I can't mix with other households at all, not in the garden, not at the pub, not at the beach.

Frazzled13 · 19/09/2020 15:57

Has there been any announcement/rumour/speculation about when they might announce any changes?
Are we talking tomorrow, or sometime in the next couple of weeks do you think?

Likeacatoutofhell · 19/09/2020 15:58

@kimlo where do you live? We’re in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
It says in our restrictions that we can meet outdoors in the group of 6, same as other areas of the country.
It says you can mix with support bubbles inside and outside too.

OP posts:
Redolent · 19/09/2020 15:59

Now’s the weekend to see friends, family, other people and get stuff done. He’s going to be hearing about how delaying action for another 2-3 weeks could be too late, so there may be restrictions earlier than we think.

It would really suck tbh. I hate the thought of giving up parks and the kinds of safe-ish outdoor activities and meet-ups we’re now used to.

Likeacatoutofhell · 19/09/2020 16:01

@Frazzled13 well our new restrictions don’t even come in until Tuesday, so my guess is week after next?

OP posts:
kimlo · 19/09/2020 16:01

@Likeacatoutofhell I'm in the northeast, the restrictions came in to effect on friday.

Likeacatoutofhell · 19/09/2020 16:04

@kimlo I find it bizarre, when pubs are still open. I know they say you can only go with your household, but you’re still breathing in the air of others and using the same toilet etc.
I thought meeting outdoors was extremely low risk?

OP posts:
Bickles · 19/09/2020 16:05

@Likeacatoutofhell
I think Bradford needs some clarification. We have been in local restrictions the whole time and like you I thought meeting at the park or other outdoor public place was ok.
However for those areas that came out 2 weeks ago and are going back in on Tuesday it reads as though they are not allowed to socialise at all even in parks. Bradford council email says it hasn’t changed for me as well.

Likeacatoutofhell · 19/09/2020 16:06

@Bickles

From Bradford council Facebook page:

The government has announced that from Tuesday 22 Sept, all parts of Bradford District will be banned from socialising with other people outside of their own households or support bubble in private homes and gardens.

OP posts:
Bickles · 19/09/2020 16:09

That’s good then. It has been houses and gardens since August- I can still take DS to the park to play with his friend.

kimlo · 19/09/2020 16:13

@Likeacatoutofhell it's about the econnomy, we need to cut down on seeing people to stop the virus spreading but we also need to spend money especially with furlough ending soon.

Personally I think the pubs will be shut soon and there will be a targeted furlough that can only be used if your buisness has been told to close.

NewStart2020MyArse · 19/09/2020 16:17

It's not going to work. It's too late. As I've said before, sad and harsh as it sounds, survival of the fittest will come into play. Everyone should do what is best for them and their own mental and physical well being.

kimlo · 19/09/2020 16:23

so it's ok if I die of covid because trying to keep it under control is too hard? Even though despite my underlying health conditions I could have another 40 years? Nice.

What about the nhs becoming overwhelmed? Or other services not being able to run because all their staff are off with covid? Or the damage that would do to the econnomy? And what are you doing about replacing these apparently despensable people who are actually doctors, nurses, teachers all sorts of people who have skills that are needed.

Lets just let it rip and if some vunerable people die so what, it's not me or anyone I love.

I didn't say any of that. If you think you are vulnerable then you should do what is best for you to reduce the risk of getting covid. Do remember though that the death rate is still very low even for the vulnerable.
PerkingFaintly · 19/09/2020 16:28

What do I think?

I think you're here to use us as a free focus group, OP.

You're a new poster or namechanger.

No, we're not going to tell you what to or what will make Johnson popular. YOU'RE IN CHARGE, YOU WAZZOCK.

If you want me to tell you how to run the country, you'll have to fucking pay me. Johnson's salary would do nicely.

kimlo · 19/09/2020 16:28

"survival of the fittest" is exactly what you said.

FlatterNow · 19/09/2020 16:35

@Likeacatoutofhell the Bradford rules on the Council website say don't socialise anywhere, not just at home or in the garden - but that's not what it says on gov.uk or, from the sounds of it, the Council's email. So I have no clue what the rules actually are Confused.

NewStart2020MyArse · 19/09/2020 16:38

@kimlo

"survival of the fittest" is exactly what you said.
Indeed and if it's gets out of control, that is what is going to happen. Sorry. I know it's upsetting, but unless they roll out a vaccine soon, it cannot be contained without killing the economy resulting in thousands of non-covid deaths. Frankly I think they should roll out the vaccine now. It's in Phase III and they should have enough safety data.

Op you're advised to not meet anyone anywhere. I checked with my mp though (I'm in calderdale) and she said it's just advice so not enforceable (yet, anyway)

Btw I'm not judging just informing you as I don't believe either council ever actually announced it.
