My DD is complaining of earache. She does tend to have earaches (normally AB given by GP, although contentious but she gets bad ones). I KNOW she will get a temperature in the next two days, as she always does.if she does, do we need to self isolate and test?? What if it gets as bad as usual and she needs AB? Assume GP would be too scared to see her with temperature....if this happens as expected, what would you do? 111 and hope for the best? Ring GP and hope for best? She currently has no covid symptoms.

I would try to speak to the GP that knows her best if you can.

I would try and speak to GP - if she has an earache and always gets a temperature afterwards, and then gets a temperature in the next couple of days then common sense would tell anyone that it's the ear infection and not Covid surely?

Not for a temperature that is obviously caused by an ear infection. Ring the GP, they can likely prescribe antibiotics over the phone if she’s had the same symptoms in the past.

Thanks, glad that this seems best port of call. I will call the GP when we get there.

No if she has an ear ache and then gets a temperature it will as you say be driven by the ear ache. Just contact the doctor for ear ache treatment. She doesn't need a covid test.

I phoned the GP this morning about dd2 who's had ear ache for 3 days. One of the questions I asked was if she raises a temperature (and she hasn't over the last 3 days) should I be getting a test.
GP said not unless she appears to be getting other symptoms, however she might need a negative test to go back to school.

Thankfully I don't think she will. Ds otoh raises a temperature with all viruses, normally roughly 1 a week from November through to March. Looks like a fun winter for us.

Thank you! @Witchend did the Dr prescribe ABs? Just interested in case we end up in same situation.

I found antihistamines worked with dc1.
Also if nlocked tubes yawning with yaw forward seems to help.
And making sure not dehydrated

No antibiotics, however he said if still in pain next week then go back and he will.
She is managing the pain with painkillers so said as it's most likely a virus. Better not.
He said go back if the drum bursts, but as she's almost an adult that's unlikely.
