Just a snippet of tomorrows increasingly depressing news:

Telegraph reporting that there is to be a escalation framework' of what next steps to take to reduce transmission. "It includes provision for mandatory masks at 'amber level' suggesting face coverings will be legally required in even more settin than they now are."

It also talks about how Channel 4 news had reported that "care-home providers in Greater Manchester were being told they must accept covid-positive patients from hospitals and they had seen a leaked contract from Trafford council about how eligible care home will recieve covid positive patients within just two hours of the patient being identified by the hospital as ready for discharge."

The Guardian is reporting that they've seen documents "Showing tracers taking up to two weeks to contact friends, relatives and workmates of people diagnosed with covid."

The Yorkshire Post reports that "figures released yesterday showed just half of non-complex contact in Kirklees, parts of which remain under restrictions, were being reached, while in Bradford it was only 44 per cent. Non-complex contact tracing includes people who may have just been in contact with friends. While Bradford had the highest infection rate in Yorkshire, it had the lowest percentage of non-complex cases reached."

Whilst the Times reported that the Lighthouse Labs set up for testing are inefficient, poorly run, have utterly shit working practices which have failed and "have failed to set up automatic processes before a second wave"

If things get worse and that is what is takes, I'm find with that. I think we should wear them at all times with the exception of in our homes and gardens. We've got to do something to stem the tide.

If the patient is ready for discharge, doesn't that mean they have recovered and no longer test positive?
If it doesn't then the care home managers need to have the integrity to refuse to accept people unless they test negative. We absolutely cannot have this virus rampaging through care homes killing our vulnerable elders again.

P.S. I hope you don't mind me pointing it out, but it's mooted (not muted. Muted is when you silence your TV).

And a local lockdown for Lancashire...

news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-lancashire-will-be-placed-under-tighter-lockdown-measures-12074606
Coronavirus: Lancashire expected to be placed under tighter lockdown measures

The clampdown will cover cites and towns including Preston, Lancaster, Wyre, Fylde, Chorley, Blackburn, Burnley and Rossendale.

And

There is also speculation that another big city in northern England, Leeds, could also be added to the lockdown list by Mr Hancock.

And the Article doesn't even mention the rumoured local lockdown for Liverpool, Cheshire West, St Helens, Knowsley and Halton...

@Itsabeautifuldayheyhey not exactly. People can test positive for COVID for weeks after being infected as the test does not distinguish between live and dead virus. It is widely accepted that you are no longer infectious after 21 days.

I’m glad somebody else pointed out the difference between ‘muted’ and ‘mooted.’

DiddlySquatty · 18/09/2020 06:40

Since the beginning of this new national guidance re hospital discharges was introduced saying that patients should be discharged without 2 hours of being declared ‘medically fit’. So that’s not big news at all.
And you would probably be surprised at what is considered ‘medically fit’! It’s not when someone is better, it’s when they no longer need to be in an acute hospital but could have needs met in a care home or at home with care.
Unless they make specific step down places for positive people then of course care homes have to otherwise the hospitals realty would have ground to a halt!
The main thing js that unlike the beginning care home providers are aware of someone’s covid status so they can provide barrier nursing if needed.

HeIenaDove · 18/09/2020 14:52

Riddle me this...............if its ok to discharge a resident with Covid back into a care home, why is it not ok for families or at least one family members to visit residents.

HeIenaDove · 18/09/2020 14:53

@DiddlySquatty Swap care homes for childrens homes and i wonder if the attitudes shown would be the same.

rambleon1 · 18/09/2020 14:57

So it's ok to infect all the other residents. Do you not realise how difficult it is to isolate a care home resident with dementia?

DiddlySquatty · 18/09/2020 15:36

I do realise

I’m not saying it’s right, just that in my experience it was already happening so not big news

Other countries made specific places for people to go who didn’t need an acute hospital bed but were covid positive, I think that makes sense.
Of course you can’t clog up hospital wards with people who would have otherwise been discharged if it were not for their covid status. If wards are full, people can’t go there from itu, then itu beds get clogged up etc etc

But equally care homes do have a responsibility to their existing residents and their staff
