Covid test got common cold symptoms?

Overwhelmed222 · 17/09/2020 20:52

My middle dc has been off school today with a sore throat and cold. She has been in bed all day (not unusual as she is 16) and feels cold.

School said to keep her at home for a couple of days (this morning it was just a sore throat).

My sister is telling me she should be tested for covid.

Not sure what to do at this stage - and wondering what other people would do.

Does she have any of the three symptoms of covid?

If not-no test.

No test

Sexnotgender · 17/09/2020 20:54

My toddler and I have had a cold the past couple days, no need for a test as we have none of the symptoms for COVID.

PleasantVille · 17/09/2020 20:55

If you look up the symptoms that mean you need a test and see if she has them you'll know what to do.

AvoidingRealHumans · 17/09/2020 20:55

She does not have any covid symptoms so no. It's very clear, I don't understand the multiple threads on this every day

Thanks that’s what I was thinking.

She won’t take her temperature at the moment but when she does and if it turns out she has one then maybe we should reconsider?

High temp = test

bigchris · 17/09/2020 20:58

Covid is not a cold

Overwhelmed222 · 17/09/2020 20:59

The thing about covid symptoms is that in reality there are many more of them listed on the WHO site than on the NHS one, and they are varied - but I agree that many of us will have colds and not covid this winter.

I guess it’s the fear that we could be unwittingly spreading it - in the same way that asymptomatic people can.

The thing about the NHS testing system is you have to have one of the three main covid symptoms to justify booking a test. The WHO list of symptoms isn’t relevant here.

Maybe it’s people seeking reassurance from
others - nobody knows posters’ circumstances. Most people who answer are straightforward and kind in their responses, but there are always those who are undermining or sarcastic.

My primary aged grandchildren got colds when they returned to school. They passed it to their mum, then me, then my husband. None of us got tested for CV. It was clearly a cold.

I did wonder if the children would be sent home from school, but the school seems to be very sensible and that didn't happen. I did wonder if we should get tested just in case, but I'm happy that we decided against it. The last thing I need is a nose and throat swab while suffering a snotty head cold.

My daughter tested the children's temperature just to make sure it wasn't anything more sinister.
