Full time mask wearing in schools

Would you be prepared for your child to wear a mask in lessons etc (even in primary school in say KS2 upwards) if it meant they caught less colds/coughs/temps and didn't have to keep isolating to get a cold? I would definitely be happy for DS 9 to wear one if it meant he got to spend more time in school

Yes I think if mine have to go back im going to insist one is only 5 though.
As fgs dc8 had to wear one to the covid test in fact it's over 3yo I think!
Having one dc in your house wearing one wouldn't help that much as a bug just spreads at home

Treesofwood · 17/09/2020 19:06

It won't. They will be filthy germ infested things.

Pinkmakeupbag · 17/09/2020 19:08

Not my youngest. He's only 5 and has speech and language delay.

I think full time mask wearing at school would be a dia taster for his development.

Rumtopf · 17/09/2020 19:08

Yes, my daughter has gone back to college (17) and does this now anyway.

OpheliasCrayon · 17/09/2020 19:08

No.
So far in the last few weeks I have seen kids with masks touch then almost constantly. Many like to ping them across the room at their friends. Many are worn under chins or even in hair as I have seen.
None are worn properly and they are on the whole nothing but totally useless and a distraction from both learning and teaching. There is absolutely no place for them in places of learning

Perching · 17/09/2020 19:09

Absolutely not.

DowntonEstate · 17/09/2020 19:14

No way. Two children aged 9&11. Wouldn’t be happy for either of them to wear one. I know how hard it is to wear one for a few hours and I think it will massively interfere with their concentration, communication and enjoyment of school.

iVampire · 17/09/2020 19:17

I’d support it.

I have adult sized DC at secondary school

I’m not sure the arguments are the same for much smaller DC in a primary

Smallsteps88 · 17/09/2020 19:18

No. They won’t be worn properly, they’ll touch them, children with glasses won’t be able to stop them steaming up (don’t tell me to just tuck them under my glasses!) they’ll leave them lying on desks, the floor etc. Then back on their faces (bleaugh) children with hearing difficulties or other SN will struggle to communicate with others wearing masks.

notevenat20 · 17/09/2020 19:19

No. I just want DC to have a normal happy free childhood.

Concerned7777 · 17/09/2020 19:23

Absolutely not!

HeresMe · 17/09/2020 19:23

I do not support it and if you dont let kids catch the lesser bugs their immune system is going to be shot for later life.

FromEden · 17/09/2020 19:25

My 8 year old has been wearing a mask at school for the past 7 weeks and she is coping ok. They can take it off when outside and during pe and obviously at lunch time. No cases reported in her school so far but that might not necessarily be because of mask wearing I guess

ClimbDad · 17/09/2020 19:28

It’s going to either be masks or school closures, so choose what’s most important, education, or clinging to this ridiculous anti-mask nonsense.

Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and many other countries insist on masks in schools at all times because they work.

DipSwimSwoosh · 17/09/2020 19:28

No no no no no no NO.

loulouljh · 17/09/2020 19:29

No. No way. I am furious at the suggestion.

RingORingORoses · 17/09/2020 19:32

yes, they should at the very least, try

i've seen plenty of young kids wearing them out and about shopping....they seemed ok

if schools are to be back successfully then something more robust than the current plan is needed.....theyve been back a matter of weeks and its all falling apart

RingORingORoses · 17/09/2020 19:33

@ClimbDad i fully agree

wintertravel1980 · 17/09/2020 19:33

No.

I am really concerned that mask wearing at a very young age hinders children's social development. Some medical professionals appear to agree with me:

www.brusselstimes.com/news/belgium-all-news/health/130480/face-mask-obligation-in-school-major-threat-to-childrens-development-doctors-say/

I also feel young children need exposure to common colds to build their immunity.

At the same time, I am ready to pay for private COVID testing to minimise self-isolation periods.

Focusanddetermination · 17/09/2020 19:33

No. Sod off.

lakesidefall · 17/09/2020 19:35

My dc 12 have to do this at school, one is fine with it the other chose virtual school instead.

Olivia333 · 17/09/2020 19:39

No it’s cruel, it won’t work and will hinder development

stickygotstuck · 17/09/2020 19:40

Of course. Anything that reduces the likelihood of school closing and children being left without schooling again has to be a good thing.

DC in secondary school BTW.

JS87 · 17/09/2020 19:40

Not a very popular idea then! I completely agree it is better for your immune system to catch colds but I can't help thinking if they are going to spend at least 50% of their time off ill/isolating I'd prepared to do it.

Yes. Our schools are going back next week and (unless instructions change in the meantime) students and staff will be wearing masks. (Italy)
