Your kid has a cough, what are your school advising?

As obviously people are struggling to get a test.

My 5yo started with a cough Tuesday, it became a continuous cough yesterday. School told me I could still send her sibling in Shock

A friends school (she is a TA) is asking for anyone with any symptoms - even a cold - to stay off until it clears obviously the 3 main symptoms need to be tested

My sister's school (she is a lunch time supervisor) seem to have zero policy in place and she said kids are coughing and sneezing all over the place.

Without the ability to rule it out, my 5yo cough is going to have us all in quarantine for most of winter.

DS's school have said keep them off with any of the 3 main symptoms - loss of taste/smell, dry persistent cough or raised temperature.

If they have common cold symptoms with none of the main Covid symptoms and are well enough they can go in.

Whole household should be isolating until negative test.
Just saw a friend of mine who is a primary school teacher as is her husband. 4 kids. One of her sons had a cough they got a test and it was negative but that was basically two teachers and 4 children at home for 3 days. And with 4 children she is pretty much expecting this to happen every single week for the forseeable.

It isn’t just a new cough CathTurnball The Gov and NHS website describe what type of cough is considered a symptom.

CathTurnbull · 18/09/2020 13:51

Yes I’m well aware of the symptoms

Deepest apologies CathTurnbull for reading your comment.

My Youngest is in y8, He woke up with a cough and cold yesterday morning, I called the school to see if I also had to keep my Y10 off and was told to send them both in if its just a cold (which it is).

Mine have cough and cold this morning. School said to send them in! I sent in 1 but not both as one is coughing quite a lot (as he always does when he has a cough).

Both my kids had a cold, started with a sore throat then runny nose and a cough. Junior school were happy for my 7yr old to attend class, preschool made me pick the 3yr old up and said he couldn’t go back until he had a negative test result or isolated for 2 weeks. We couldn’t get a test booked, so we’re all isolating now.

Trying to get junior school to send some work home for 7yr old, apparently they are not prepared for this scenario.
