The head says he thinks it was ill-advised despite them not breaking government restrictions at the time.. Though surely 8 of them attending another person's house WAS against the restrictions.. (Which was only two households inside or six people/two households outside)??

@goldenlilliesdaffodillies

I'm a teacher and think the teachers concerned were really irresponsible and lacking in common sense. Headteachers have had a nightmare planning bubbles and making schools Covid safe. Perhaps the letter could have been worded differently, but I can understand the frustration.
But schools aren't covid safe. Even this headteacher's school wasn't covid safe, staff caught it in school too. The letter didn't need to be worded at all.
CallmeAngelina · 18/09/2020 18:18

Why is it any worse them catching and spreading it amongst themselves at an outdoor venue away from school, than if they'd caught it on the school premises and then spread it amongst themselves?
There isn't a school in the country that is "Covid secure," whatever this Head says he's put in place, so they could very easily have caught it there, as in fact evidenced by the fact that three further members of staff have caught it.

Not read whole thread. It does occur to me though that it would be smart to get the narrative out fast that the virus had definitely and positively been contracted at a party, rather than at school, wouldn't it.

CokeyCola · 18/09/2020 18:36

You can see why he was the only one not invited to the party. Grin

Plus ridiculous to imply they caught it from the party, even if they probably did.

Willyoujustbequiet · 18/09/2020 18:38

Bad judgement on behalf of the teachers. I can understand the heads frustration and if I was a parent at that school Id be pissed off.

Hugepeppapigfan · 18/09/2020 23:57

How can that head possibly know when or where the staff contracted the virus? The ones who attended the baby shower tested positive plus 3 other members of staff. So it was transmitted in school at least to some extent. So his plans for a Covid secure school didn’t exactly work out. Note that it isn’t necessarily teachers. It states ‘staff’.

Bluelinings · 19/09/2020 02:15

Several of them definitely caught it in school which weakens his argument. The teachers were more risky than I would have been but within guidelines and law. It was wrong to publicly chastise them. Would the head do the same to groups of parents/children/families? How would we feel if he did?

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 19/09/2020 02:50

I can't believe there's 6 pages of this with only one mention of the head's use of comic sans Shock HmmConfused

sorryforswearing · 19/09/2020 02:50

He’d have banned it if he’d known would he? I’d like to know how he’d have managed that. Reckless or not he has no control over what staff do outside school. If you want respect you don’t threaten what you can’t back up.

littlemsattitude · 19/09/2020 03:15

That letter is disgusting. He's going to have a recruitment crisis on his hands and deservedly so.
