Because he is a really good local MP, and apparently gives a lot of his time and effort in representing his constituents. You may not like him, but if he is doing a good job locally, then the locals will continue to vote for him.

He isn’t the MP for Somerset. It’s North East Somerset which is quite different .

I heard him once on local radio talking about how he’d been helping a family who had a very ill child to get better care and medical requirements. Missed the beginning and didn’t know it was JRM. Was very surprised as he sounded very caring and supportive. I think he must be good locally.

I live in a similar sort of constituency, lots of wealthy villages and land owners (though not me) and if a dog wore a blue rosette on polling day it would get in that's the only explanation for it.
