Feeling unwell and now been informed I’ve been in contact with a positive.

I’ve had an awful headache since Monday. It wakes me up from sleep, I feel dizzy, tired, aching and generally under the weather.

No fever, only a little cough.

Work have just called to say I’ve been in contact with a person that tested positive- I was in contact last Wednesday. They started showing symptoms on Sunday.

I have a test booked this evening- I’m feeling really anxious and nervous that I have caught it.

Anyone else just have a headache as a symptom?

It is unlikely that you have caught Covid of that particular person as there was 3 clear days between your last contact and that person developing symptoms and the virus isn't usually contagious that long before symptoms. That being said you could have caught the virus off of somebody else (such as another colleague who was asymptomatic who also passed it to the colleague who has now tested positive) so there is a very real chance that you have the virus especially if it is unclear where your colleague caught the virus. Equally you could have another unrelated virus or even a completely different issue.

Bluewavescrashing · 17/09/2020 13:02

Try to stay calm, there are so many other viruses going around. Hope you feel better soon. Get tested but don't panic until you have a result.

Callisto1 · 17/09/2020 13:10

For a friend of mine headache was the main symptom. He felt under the weather but no fever or cough. His illness was mild and he is completely fine now. Hopefully you feel better soon regardless if it's Covid or something else.

mintich · 17/09/2020 13:12

I thought they were saying on GMB yesterday that the virus takes a few days to develop into symptoms?

FallingIguanas · 17/09/2020 13:14

A severe persistent headache is associated with a positive Covid result in 80% of cases according to the Professor who developed the Covid Symptom Study app. Try not to panic and rest as much as you can so your body can fight off whatever it is you have.

StatisticalSense · 17/09/2020 13:19

It can take up to 14 days for the virus to become symptomatic, but in most cases symptoms appear much sooner with the average being around 5-6 days. Equally, the virus isn't immediately transmittable the moment you catch it and it is thought that it isn't usually contagious more than 48-72 hours before symptoms display in cases that become symptomatic and is not at it's height of infectiousness until 24-48 hours before symptoms develop. This means that while it is possible a person who develops symptoms on a Sunday will have been harbouring the virus on the previous Wednesday it is extremely unlikely that they were contagious at that point.

@FallingIguanas
I haven't heard that particular quote but even as someone with no scientific background I can say with confidence that nothing like 80% of severe headaches are caused by Covid-19, and suggesting that they are is potentially dangerous considering the actual possible causes. It also seems unlikely that 80% of those with Covid-19 are reporting a severe headache as anecdotally it isn't a symptom that is popping up with anything like that frequency.

Headaches were associated with a positive result in 80% of cases, I did not say Covid was the cause of 80% of any headache. If you're interested have a listen to the interview with Professor Spectre at the beginning of Jeremy Vine programme on R2 today .

This. He was just saying this moring that headache and tiredness are the most consistent two syptoms accross all age ranges.

IpanemaFlowers · 17/09/2020 13:41

It’s really worth a listen to that item on JV today. When I was in a and e back in April with viral pneumonia, I was asked by a doctor about headaches to help determine whether it was covid (too late for a test).

stovetopespresso · 17/09/2020 13:49

pretty sure we had it back in Feb and yes splitting headache along with classic symptoms, weirdly no fever just chills. (ds had the fever though)

wuickquestion · 17/09/2020 16:01

So you can catch from someone breathing on you as they aren't coughing at that point ? So once they are coughing we don't need to worry ?

Weirdly I always get incredibly thirsty for two days before I get a cold. Like so thirsty, my throat feel dry. But I suppose that's a symptom? I have a cold could be Covid as have developed my usual snot clearing cough.

Kitcat122 · 17/09/2020 20:15

Covid symptoms really can be anything. We are a family of six. Five of us had Covid and we were all like totally different illnesses.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/09/2020 20:59

I don’t think you could have caught it from that person on Weds. If it was Fri/Sat, maybe. If you do have it’s more likely from that timeline that you were both in contact with someone that had it on Weds.

onlinelinda · 18/09/2020 17:02

@Kitcat122 is right. There are 6 groups of symptom types, and no doubt differing transmission tomes.

Dozens · 18/09/2020 18:27

Well I have no idea what this is but it’s not Covid - negative result!

You must feel relieved. Are you feeling any better?

Dozens · 19/09/2020 09:36

I’m a little better, still have a headache / neck ache. Eyes feel heavy and achy. Don’t feel like I have a lot of energy.
Bit of a cough. DH has a headache, DD who also tested negative has a cough.
I’m thinking another virus / cold or maybe hayfever or something. It’s all a bit odd.
