My child has a cold what do I do

DD just started reception and now has a cold. Not a bad one, seems well enough in herself, no cough or temp. But a bit sniffly.

Should I send her to school? The NHS guidance says that she should go in but I've also seen numerous posts on here judging other parents for sending their child in with a runny nose. She's only just started school so I don't want to create any drama with the teachers/other parents this early on.

This time last year when she was at preschool I would have sent her in no question but now I am not sure what to do.

Send her in.

Mine went in with a cold, no one raised an eyebrow. No cough, no temp means send them in as long as they are well in themselves.

Send her in. If she does not have any of the three symptoms of covid then she can go to school.

GreyishDays · 17/09/2020 07:52

Send her in unless your school has sent out guidance suggesting otherwise.

Sniffles/runny nose etc isn't a sign of covid so will be fine to go in

DS had a cold this week and I sent him in. No Covid symptoms. Couldn't care less who judges me, I can't afford to take time off work for every cold and no one else is going to pay my bills.

This is the DoE advise and it’s one I will follow.

This quite clearly states, if your child has a cold only, no temp, no continuous cough, no issues with taste or smell, they can go to school.

Ds had a slight sore throat yesterday, no temp, no other symptoms so he went to school armed with Strepsils. By the afternoon he was much better.

He’s just had 6 months off, I can’t start keeping him off for every mild cold symptom.

Send her in. A cold isnt covid 19. Sniffles isnt enough to even get a test.

AlexaShutUp · 17/09/2020 08:34

Yes, send her in if she is well enough in herself. She doesn't have covid symptoms.

LouiseNW · 17/09/2020 08:35

Don’t ask MN: ring 119 for advice (111 isn’t dealing with Covid related enquiries, or at least it wasn’t 3 weeks ago, was redirecting )

There's a thread on here with the pregnant op who wfh has a cold and everyone is telling her to call of sick. Yet she's not at risk of infecting anyone else. Yet here we have parents who are actively sending their cold infested children to school knowing that they will infect other children. Fyi. My ds has come down with a cold and I'm keeping him home. I wouldn't want to be responsible for my ds infecting other children! I also am taking time off work to look after him. Yes, i need my job and money but I cant take a risk, especially given current circumstances.

We had a parent's call with DC's class teacher this week. Teacher said lots of kids have sore throats and runny noses at the moment but it is fine to come to school with those symptoms (providing child is well enough). Teacher confirmed you only need to keep children off if they have any of the 3 Covid symptoms listed in all the government and PHE advice.
