Runny nose and sore throat - do I need a test?

I’m a nurse (outpatienrs) and developed a runny nose and feel a bit run down with a sore throat. Do I need a test? So I need to isolate? Coughed once or twice but only when throat dry, almost like hay fever. Definitely feels like a cold more than a flu.

Yes

AlwaysInAQ · 16/09/2020 21:11

No

MissRabbitIsExhausted · 16/09/2020 21:12

No, it's not a continuous cough by the sounds of it, if you've no temp or change in taste/smell then no.

Oly4 · 16/09/2020 21:12

No, your cough doesn’t sound continuous, the other symptoms don’t count. If you start coughing a bit more regularly, then yes you do

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/09/2020 21:13

No. Only of you have one of the 3 main symptoms.

Scoopstroop · 16/09/2020 21:13

You dont have the 3 main symptoms so no.
Take cold medicine and go to work.

Orangedaisy · 16/09/2020 21:13

No

Dontcarewhatmyusernameis · 16/09/2020 21:14

A sore throat is not a Covid symptom on its own as far as I’m aware. Not unless you have a persistent cough which you don’t. My kids’ school has said to us not to count a sore throat as a Covid symptom (or a runny /stuffed nose).

Twickerhun · 16/09/2020 21:17

Nope

AvoidingRealHumans · 16/09/2020 21:17

There are 3 symptoms that would require a test, you have none.

OpheliasCrayon · 16/09/2020 21:21

No

mynameiscalypso · 16/09/2020 21:23

We have the same here thanks to DS starting nursery - lots of sneezing and snotty noses but none of the main COVID symptoms so no need to test as far as we're concerned.

Bobbybobbins · 16/09/2020 21:27

I have exactly the same as you and I don't think I need a test. No continuous cough or fever.

Fast90 · 16/09/2020 21:27

No (fellow nurse here)

Namechange880 · 16/09/2020 21:31

Another vote for no

HesterShaw1 · 16/09/2020 21:31

No. You have a cold.

londongirl12 · 16/09/2020 21:33

No. As a nurse have they not given you guidance on when you need one?

Siennabear · 16/09/2020 21:35

No. It’s a cold. Multivitamins help me a lot.

intheroom · 16/09/2020 21:35

My first symptoms were sore throat, very few coughs a day and feeling a bit unwell (no temp till later). Don't be embarrassed to test and isolate. I had people scoffing and calling me a hypochondriac. My children also didn't get the standard symptoms. Hope you're better soon (and that is is just a cold Smile).

fifteenisthemagicnumber · 16/09/2020 21:36

You do not have any of the three symptoms you need to to get tested. I find it really hard to understand where the confusion is. Unless your trust has other rules, in which case you wouldn't be asking on Mumsnet.

Sexnotgender · 16/09/2020 21:37

No. You don’t have any of the 3 main symptoms.

Purpleheadgirl · 16/09/2020 21:38

I say no......but that's the point of Occupational health since you're a nurse. Ask them and they would be able to organise a test if they felt you needed it without the palava that is going on with testing generally

Sh1tsandgiggl3s · 16/09/2020 21:40

Good luck
With getting test! Being trying since Friday have given up now and will isolate everyone for 2 weeks.

Pheobeasy · 16/09/2020 21:40

Don't be embarrassed to test and isolate.

Actually do, because that's why there aren't enough tests FFS.

Although because of your job speak to your manager or whoever I would and see what they recommend.

stovetopespresso · 16/09/2020 21:46

going against the no tide as my kids' schools say a continuous cough is 3 times in 24 hours - maybe see how you are tonight and what the testing situation is near you?
