“For peace of mind”
“I just fancied one”
Pretending they’re a key worker “to keep my family safe”

The government have done a shit job with testing.
These people are not helping.

Completely agree, it’s the same with people at our school. Not a thought for people who really need them who can’t get them. Not to mention the ones who think they can get a test to avoid quarantine if they’ve returned from abroad or told to isolate. We’ve known that to happen with friends of ours too.

Hilleni · 16/09/2020 07:29

Yes, I saw that too! Did you notice the camera cut to the son who started wiping at his nose? Grin

Hilleni · 16/09/2020 07:30

Also during that segment, there was a man who was worried as his wife had M.E. I didn't realise that put her at a higher risk?

KnobChops · 16/09/2020 07:34

I did! Classic.

The hard of thinking are everywhere.

If done properly the test is invasive and painful. I had one at work (NHS) and thought I’d been punched in the nose. Why would you put yourself through it with no symptoms??

He should have stayed in Spain Hmm
You can't blame people they have been ordered to test test test to save everything from the economy to humanity.
That's the 'simple' message, test.

flindorama · 16/09/2020 07:42

Yesterday on BBC 5Live someone called in complaining that her DD was sent home as a close contact at school tested positive. If I remember right, she then tried (and failed) to get a test for her. No symptoms at all, she wanted to prove she was negative so she could send her back. School said no anyway, quite rightly. Why to people still not understand that the virus incubates first. Honestly, it's folk like that that that infuriate me. I was shouting at the radio. The phone in was about not being able to get a test. People like that are part of the problem. I know it's crap, My 3 DS have already been off twice (Scotland) and I'm worried about the disruption but I wouldn't test unless they had symptoms. It's crap but that's how it is at the moment.

NHT32 · 16/09/2020 07:44

My nephew went for a test with no symptoms for the simple reason he had been in a pub where someone tested positive. Track and Trace said he didn’t need to self isolate.

He phoned work and they said they didn’t want him back for 2w unless he had a test. He doesn’t get paid when off work.

Can hardly blame him for having one in those circumstances.

The country needs educating, businesses need educating.

The silence from the government in recent weeks has been deafening bar one press conference.

TheQueef · 16/09/2020 07:44

I agree Flin the Flash to Bang timescale should be reiterated as much as possible.

SavoyCabbage · 16/09/2020 07:48

It's the drama Mick, they love it.

Close the schools! Close the schools!
Open the bloody schools, will somebody think of the children!

Now they can drama about the tests.

I've had him tested.
They said to get him tested.

There's no tests! They wanted me to go to Bolton!

FrameByFrame · 16/09/2020 07:48

Another example of the BBC peddling the Government's stance that testing is 'robust', and it's the general public that are causing the problem! Those examples were laughable! Did the job, though, as we are now discussing those idiots, rather than the fact that Bolton has no effective testing facility!

Sewsosew · 16/09/2020 07:48

Emergency dentist won’t see DH without having done a test. I cannot get one. He can’t go to a drive through one as he’s at sodding work, miles from one. Ridiculous

NailsNeedDoing · 16/09/2020 07:52

To be fair, we were told a while back that testing testing testing was the key to getting society functioning properly while keeping people safe. We were encouraged to get tests. We should be able to use tests instead of having to quarantine healthy people for two weeks.

Schools are ignoring what they have been told to do by the DforE and insisting that parents get their children tested before they can be educated, some workplaces are doing the same.

People aren’t helping, but they’ve been given so many constantly changing messages, half of which make no sense anyway, so it’s understandable that people have lost faith in government instructions and are deciding to what they think is best for their own families.

Livelovebehappy · 16/09/2020 07:57

Absolutely bonkers unless you really do have symptoms. TBH you could have a test today and be clear, and on Friday be tested positive, so what’s the point unless you actually have symptoms?

KnobChops · 16/09/2020 07:57

Yes I totally agree, the governments mixed or absent messaging, organisation and has been a bloody disgrace.

But surely there is a degree of common sense needed. I think we’ll have to start restricting tests to people with symptoms. Some will lie and say they have them to get a test, of course.

OP posts:
SockYarn · 16/09/2020 07:57

This is not new. Schools and employers aren't helping by telling people who have symptoms other than covid to get a test before they're allowed back to school or work.

NotAKaren · 16/09/2020 07:58

Schools and workplaces need educating on the guidance. You do not need a test if you have no symptoms, because you are isolating due a case in your bubble at school or because you know someone who knows someone who has it or because you have a runny nose and just want to check. Employees who have not had symptoms do should not need a test to return to work. The whole thing is ridiculous.

Giningit · 16/09/2020 08:01

One of my DCs has symptoms and we have been trying to get a test since the weekend. Nothing available, absolutely nothing. From what I’ve read, it appears to be a problem with lab capacity. Not enough labs to test samples so they are restricting testing. The government told people to get tested and that’s what they went out and did! Once again mixed messages from the government.
As it happens the time limit to get a test is within 5 days since DC’s symptoms appeared. We are close to that limit so no point in getting her tested now. If she recovers and is well enough to go to school tomorrow, she’s going in and we are all carrying on with business as usual, i.e. none of our household is self isolating without a confirmed diagnosis.

NailsNeedDoing · 16/09/2020 08:02

Common sense means different things to different people though. Schools have been educated on the guidance, they have all had the same information from the government, but for whatever reasons, many of them are choosing to ignore it.

MrsCollinssettled · 16/09/2020 08:03

Or they have a boss like mine who insists on a Covid testing if you are off sick even if you don't have any Covid symptoms.

LizzieSiddal · 16/09/2020 08:04

Hear hear! So ridiculous! Why aren’t the BBC talking to the thousands of people who need a test and can’t get one?

Bupkis · 16/09/2020 08:07

I think it's shit that the spotlight is being shone at the wrong part of the stage.
The government have fucked up on a colossal scale...but let's distract everyone by shining the light on the public and blaming them eh.

Covidiot · 16/09/2020 08:08

And the irony is that they’re increasing their chances Of catching it as the people with it won’t/ can’t be tested, and therefore are unlikely to self-isolate.

Thickos indeed.

As I understand it ME doesn't put you at a greater risk from covid. But catching covid would increase the risk of a relapse or worsening of the ME.
Covidiot · 16/09/2020 08:10

@Bupkis yes I agree the government are fucking up massively - and trying to downplay it totally, but irrespective of government policy, everyone has a role to play in this - this is not going to be solved by government action alone. So calling out the idiots is fair play as far as I’m concerned.
