Why aren't the government being given more credit for prioritising education?

The government have risked a lot by putting schools first, selflessly knowing that a second wave would reflect badly on them. This is how it's turning out, but they're still even now fully committed to keeping schools open.

They could have just had blended learning or even carried on demanding tutoring from home for the the winter term, but they've stuck their necks out by getting every child back to school.

Basically, just a reality check for people who are criticising the government at the moment. They've made big mistakes but the kids are their priority and they deserve credit for that.

OP posts:

We have TAs teaching GCSE classes. These TAs are amazing at their job, however this is not their job. They are not qualified or paid to teach 5 different subjects a day, and the kids who need TAs are being fucked over. As our the kids whos teacher is self isolating as there are no tests in our lockdown area.

I could go on for hours, but this is not prioritising education. Its prioritising childcare.

ilovesooty · 15/09/2020 22:00

This might be amusing if it weren't for the fact that people really believe this shit.

DontBeShelfish · 15/09/2020 22:03

Fucking Hell. Just...fucking Hell. The sheer idiocy. Do you only understand what's happening in a very limited and specific way, OP?

cheesecurdsandgravy · 15/09/2020 22:03

Blows the dust off

Iwantacookie · 15/09/2020 22:03

OP please tell me what your smoking because I really want to try some of that!

Frazzled2207 · 15/09/2020 22:04

thank you @noblegiraffe

PlanBee · 15/09/2020 22:07

I'm with you OP. Can see we are the minority here. They may be shambolic in many respects but I think it is a clear and pivotal stance for once.

Although they can really help schools much more in terms of funding, PPE provisions, working with schools on safety/absence/illness policies, test and trace, cleaners etc etc

cantkeepawayforever · 15/09/2020 22:10

OP, if you are a paid Tory 'influencer', then tbh you need to change jobs because you are far too obvious.

If you are NOT being paid - ie you are doing this because you truly believe it - then I am very concerned about you.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 15/09/2020 22:11

No one can possibly be THAT deluded.

Dontrainonmyparade · 15/09/2020 22:12

WTF? I think I live in a parallel universe to the OP.

cantkeepawayforever · 15/09/2020 22:13

@ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble

No one can possibly be THAT deluded.
Well, that was what i assumed, tbh. And then I began to wonder if the OP could, in fact, be freely posting their own genuinely thought-out views with no thought of gain. Which was truly terrifying.
TSSDNCOP · 15/09/2020 22:14

It goes like this:

March Govt: school's closing

Middle and ongoing: Noble giraffes list

July Govt: schools opening and here's a nonsense to do list featuring bubbles and one way systems

That's the extent of "prioritising" re schools.

TheMistressQuickly · 15/09/2020 22:15

Please go and observe a day in your local secondary school. This has nothing to do with education. It’s all about getting sheeple back into work.

If they gave a shit about education then the whole algorithm farce wouldn’t have happened!!!

Dillydallyingthrough · 15/09/2020 22:16

@noblegiraffe 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

PheasantPlucker1 · 15/09/2020 22:17

NobleGiraffe I want to give a standing ovation to that post.

I have seen teachers, SLT, cleaners, admin staff, caretakers ect all working their arses off unpaid over summer to try and make schools safe. If its a success it will be despite the government, not because of them.

OPTIMUMMY · 15/09/2020 22:18

This has given me a good laugh. Go and check out a dictionary for what ‘selfless’ means.
Your post would have made more sense if you’d replaced ‘government’ with ‘teachers’ seeing as they are the ones who care about education, are in the front line and get a constant bashing on here!

echt · 15/09/2020 22:19

When I first read the OP's OP I thought it was intended to be ironic, rather like Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal" or Daniel Defoe's "The Quickest Was With Dissenters".

echt · 15/09/2020 22:20

Way not Was.

It's early morning where I am and my first cuppa hasn't kicked in.

echt · 15/09/2020 22:22

though they can really help schools much more in terms of funding, PPE provisions, working with schools on safety/absence/illness policies, test and trace, cleaners etc etc

You mean, like, everything. :o

Nellodee · 15/09/2020 22:24

@cantkeepawayforever They could be a crap Tory influencer, or they could be a rather better Labour influencer? I'll leave you my tin foil hat for you to try that idea out on, it's time for me to go to bed.

Splendidseptember · 15/09/2020 22:30

, * and yet some state schools handled it so well?
Didn't miss a beat, got staff and pupils on line, with only minimal training..

How did some schools do so well and others so badly.
Our primary is well funded, very few fsm... How?.

Concerned7777 · 15/09/2020 22:32

children always have been and Continue to be the very bottom of the pecking order

Mammyloveswine · 15/09/2020 22:36

Fuck off... "selfless".

Also I'm a teacher, a nursery teacher.. there is no social distancing, I'm full of cold and half my class are off already...

duffeldaisy · 15/09/2020 22:37

Thank you. I’ve felt quite low this afternoon, but this is hilarious!
😂

Walkaround · 15/09/2020 22:37

@annabel85 - prioritising education does not look like this! Prioritising schools would involve spending a lot more money to cover the actual cost of extra hygiene, extra staff to cover sickness absence and extra responsibilities created by covid, etc. It will all fall to bits quite rapidly, anyway, when half the essential staff in schools are busy self-isolating for 10-14 days because they can’t get covid tests for themselves or their own sick children.
