... Does the whole household have to quarantine on their return too? If the family member does not exhibit any symptoms? Obviously if they did we would all follow procedure.

I've heard several people say we should all have to quarantine on my DHs return but I'm lost online trying to find the official guidelines. He's the only one travelling.

No only he has to quarantine but you should socially distance from him as much as possible

There's quite good guidance on the government website for each country.
Generally the answer is no, others do not have to isolate, just ventilate the house well and distance from him as much as possible for the required time

The people you’re staying with do not need to stay at home, unless they travelled with you.

If you’re staying in a hotel or guest house, you must stay away from others who didn’t travel with you, so it’s important that you don’t use shared areas such as bars, restaurants, health clubs and sports facilities. Stay 2 metres apart from other people staying there at all times.

It’s important to avoid as much contact with other people as possible in your home in order to reduce the risk of transmitting coronavirus. You should stay in a well-ventilated room with a window to the outside that can be opened, separate from other people in your home.

Thank you all, it's pretty much what I had understood. I was getting a bit uncertain when I mentioned I'd still be getting the essentials and having appointments and was met with frustration from my lack of boundaries...
