Loss of taste in DS

naughty40me · 15/09/2020 16:14

My DS came home from school yesterday feeling rough.
He's 13 and in Y9.

He even fell asleep before his tea.
Temperature was up a but not an actual fever, few sneezes and just sore throat.

The day before he did complain of a feeling that something was stuck in his chest too.

Sent him to school today as per the guidelines but now he's home and saying he can't taste anything.

Now I know kids his age could maybe try and pull a fast one lol. So I've made him drink a shot of vinegar...no flinching whatsoever!

Then a shot of coffee with cold water. Nothing again.

No way is he that good of an actor!

Trying to book a test. Absolutely nothing. Will need a postal one as I don't drive.

Surely he can't have really caught it can he? Cases are supposedly low around here and loads of kids have got colds.
What would you think?

I know it sounds cruel what I did but I did it in jest and he was laughing, but seriously not one flinch when the vinegar went down..🤷🏻‍♀️

Then you definitely need a test

ChaChaCha2012 · 15/09/2020 16:16

It was a stupid thing to do.

But yes, he does need a test. Please let your MP know if you can't get one.

PurpleDaisies · 15/09/2020 16:16

You can’t tell without a test. Other viruses can cause you to lose your sense of taste.

Unfortunately you’ll all have to isolate until you can get a test. Good luck! It’s a nightmare at the moment.

ivfbeenbusy · 15/09/2020 16:19

Loss of taste/smell is on the "lists" being circulated by most schools so actually sending him to school (well the ones in my city anyway) IS in breach of guidelines

He has to stay off till you get a test unfortunately

emptyshelvesagain · 15/09/2020 16:19

Your son is ill so you sent him to school anyway then when he came home unsurprisingly still feeling ill you made him drink fucking vinegar Confused

Is there some sort of back story here that would go any way to begin to explain that?

Racoonworld · 15/09/2020 17:28

He needs a test and can’t go into school until he has one with negative. If you can’t get one you all have to isolate for two weeks.

SalterWatcher · 15/09/2020 17:29

Literally has all the symptoms and you send him to school and give him vinegar? Nice Biscuit

Your poor son. Imagine mistrusting him and making him drink vinegar. That’s not funny at all.
It’s bad enough you sent him to school ill after he’d had a temperature. Loss of taste is probably the biggest indicator of covid - the others happen commonly with viruses, but the anosmia without stuffed nose is pretty singular to covid.
He needs a test and you need to be a bit kinder!

Poor lad, get him a bucket of ice cream and a fan, try and keep his temperature down and don't worry him.
Definitely keep trying to get a test.
There's been a huge rise in cases lately unfortunately.

As for the vinegar, ok he's 13 and he wouldn't have done it if he was bothered but still. 😬
(I love vinegar so it wouldn't have made me flinch to drink btw)
