Fever due to infection

Weird one, I have an infection and have had a fever.

Do I need to isolate now? I didn't have a swab whilst in hospital as I have zero symptoms apart from the fever.

Yes, you could have picked up covid in hospital. Hope you feel much better soon.

Torvean32 · 15/09/2020 15:23

What type of infection? I'd check with a GP to see if you need to test.

Hipsterpotamus · 15/09/2020 15:23

So does everyone who attends hospital have to isolate then?

Kidney infection (confirmed by urine and blood).

I absolutely did not think to ask at the hospital. May contact the GP, thanks

I wouldn't bother as you have a confirmed infection at the hospital. If they had suspected covid they'd have tested you.

No, of course not. Lots of people attend hospital and don’t have any covid symptoms. Isolation and/or testing is for those with one of more covid-19 symptoms.

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee That's what I was thinking.

I am only worried as I have a dentist appointment coming up.

I had tonsillitis which caused a fever so we all isolated for 2 weeks... this was back in March. I wouldn’t now if I got a fever again from tonsillitis.

I probably would avoid a dentist though as they go right into the mouth!

Useruseruserusee · 15/09/2020 18:18

I have a confirmed infection from a gnat bite. I’m taking antibiotics but the infection has given me a slightly raised temp.

The doctor has said no need to isolate as there is a known cause.

PurpleDaisies · 15/09/2020 18:19

You don’t know what your fever is due to.

Your dentist won’t want to see you if you’ve had a fever without having had a negative test. I’d book one (if you can!).

Hipsterpotamus · 15/09/2020 18:45

Thanks All, I've decided to isolate and not have a test - the dentist appointment has been rearranged. It seems like it would be a waste of a test, and I don't want to even have the smallest chance of putting someone at risk.
