How many COVID cases will it take for 1000 pupil secondary to close?

Just that really!

My teens are still attending school, one positive covid case so far.

How many people on here are sending their kids into a school with positive covid case/s? Is this standard, to just carry on and do a mini track and trace at school?

Depends no whether they are separating year groups or not. I would only expect a whole school to close if there were no social distancing/separation of year groups or if every separate year group had a positive case. I'd certainly keep sending my kids in with one positive case unless they'd been in close contact with them /been instructed to stay home.

It wouldn’t take many cases among teachers to close a school.

We have slightly more pupils in our secondary school. 7 positive cases so far. Only close contacts required to isolate (not entire bubbles).
We are in a high risk area.

Yes, good point about teachers. That's more likely to close a school. Oh and lack of availability for tests so teachers having to stay home because they can't get tested

FallingIguanas · 15/09/2020 11:50

My understanding is 2 positive cases closes the bubble. This of course relies on timely access to testing...

The year groups are the bubbles.

But the rest of the year group are still in school, aside from children who have sat next to/been in contact with the child.

I think it would either take a shortage of teachers (who are isolating etc) or one case per year group. Similar sized school here and two years are currently closed.

One positive test in year group entire year group sent home - it's the council's policy here.

The younger years are kept in fixed classes of 30 - though break and lunch they mix - but can't do that GCSE years due to options taken.

So I have two of our children at home at moment and last count over ten schools in our city had sent a year group home though that's accross secondary and primary schools.

The schools are still open to other pupils - and if people are trying for tests or waiting test results or have any of the three sympoms they are not supposed to go in till they have test results. Once they have test results schools must be told and they immediately work on sending year group home.

There does seem to be some local variation into how things are handled.
