In regards to pay when isolating?

Are you getting paid for being off during isolation, or only if you can prove a positive test result?

Testing and turn around times seem a complete fiasco at the moment which is obviously going to be a worry for those who won't get paid for isolating if it's negative. Sad

My work will only pay if it's a positive result and time will have to be made up for shifts missed whilst isolating if it's a negative result. I am worried what happens if it's inconclusive or goes missing though.

I had to get tested and work furloughed me. One I got negative I was allowed back the next day. Apparently this is an option providing you’ve been previously furloughed.

SweetPeaPods · 14/09/2020 20:37

DS1 needed a test so I was able to work from home while he was waiting for results.
DH got paid sick leave.

I don't know, but might be finding out soon based on some stuff on social media. Considering I am on a zero hours contract with an employer that believes pay and furlough cannot be combined in the same pay period I am not exactly hopeful but the fact that it would be a work related contact that caused isolation (along with other complicating factors) may affect their response.

Employer here. So far we've had a chat with the employee concerned and when it was 4 days off we paid 3 days as authorised absence and agreed she'd take 1 day as holiday.

We had a chat that we will do our best to keep to paying full salary but it works both ways - we can't have you off for 2 weeks every month and then declare you want a holiday.

Small business with v few employees.

That sounds fair @flowerycurtain , I'd agree with that option if it were me.

Didn't realise furlough could be used, that's interesting.

We're all set up to wfh so that is what we would be expected to do, unless ill obviously.

TheDragQueen · 14/09/2020 20:52

Bugger all. Making lots of people redundant which is always fun.

Pheobeasy · 14/09/2020 20:54

Have the equipment to WFH so would do that, although with a toddler who would be unable to go to nursery in that case, I'd probably look to take unpaid leave or AL.

My workplace pays full pay currently but ds workplace doesn’t pay at all hence no one is getting tested

They’re staying off a few days if very unwell but otherwise just going in

I know a lot on zero hours etc and all are still working - even with symptoms as usually mild

People don’t want to miss work if they’ve been without pay last four months and equally if they’re ‘not too bad’ they also don’t want their kids isolating off school two weeks having missed months

I imagine more are doing this than being tested

CeeJay81 · 14/09/2020 21:21

Mine is off on normal pay. I consider myself lucky cause I know that isn't the case for many jobs. I work in a Supermarket.

So this morning I have kept DS2 off school because he’s full of snot and has a COLD. I had it myself a week earlier, and because I work in care I had to have a Covid year which was of course negative.

School were fine this morning, they are being sensible and recognise it’s just a cold.

But now according to my employer’s policy I can’t return to work without a negative test.

I have no symptoms, my son has no symptoms. But I now have to get a test before I can return to work. My son will be back at school before I even get a test most likely!

Madness.
