Will they extended Maternity Exemption Certificates?

I'm presuming the answer will be no but I really wish they would. Being pregnant screwed up my gums and left me needing dental work which I've been unable to book.

My dentist still isn't allowing appointments unless they are emergency appointments and has said this is likely to remain the same until at least December. Which is frustratingly when my certificate will run out.

I appreciate there's lots of people in worse situations but surely the certificate should be extended in these circumstances?

Can you not switch dentists? My dentists are open if you need treatment, or if you are in pain. Just not check ups.

Gum problems are serious in pregnancy my teeth moved so much, I had to get braces afterwards (funded via the NHS because my gums became so unstable). This was despite good hygiene.

Your dentist sounds negligent. They will not extend the certificate.

Sadly I've rang around all the nearest dentists and they are not accepting new patients and couldn’t recommend any alternative solutions when I explained the problem. Sorry to hear you had teeth problems too.

It's such a shame they wont extend as dental work is so blooming expensive and I honestly wont be able to afford it if I cant get it done before the certificate runs out.

They obviously recognise that pregnancy can mess your teeth and gums up hence providing the certificate in the first place so its frustrating they haven't considered that it's basically been unusable for most of the year.

That’s a real shame. Just another service that’s been sidestepped for Covid unfortunately. I guess if you had the money you would be okay. Very unfair.

It does indeed seem grossly unfair and I'll likely just have to live with the damage as I wont be able to afford to pay. I suspect you're right that if I could pay I'd be seen pretty swiftly.

I just feel pretty resentful that they offer the scheme for exactly this reason and yet because my child was born just before a pandemic I'm meant to just accept there is no help available.

Same here, mine runs out in December and our dentist isn't taking any appointments other than emergencies. It's crap as by the time they decide they can be arsed to take appointments, mine will have expired and I will need to pay

Sorry to hear you're also in this pretty rubbish position, it's both reassuring and disheartening to know others are also finding it impossible to get an appointment.

I really hope they do start allowing appointments sooner rather than later but I strongly suspect even if they did I would be 1 in a very very long line of people trying to book.
