Would this be breaking the rules? Seeing family from Ireland...

I’m from the Republic of Ireland, but currently living in the U.K. I’ve had a very traumatic upsetting year (my baby was stillborn early in lockdown) and haven’t been able to see my family in Ireland for support. It’s been really tough on all of us. They’re desperate to see my 4 year old daughter and it’s breaking their hearts not being able to support us through our tough times.

So, I was thinking - Would it be breaking the rules if we all travelled to Northern Ireland and met up there? They’re not far from the border so could drive up easily, and I could fly over for one night with my DD without having to quarantine on return.

I don’t want to do anything that’s breaking the rules, but I can’t figure out any other way to see each other. If I fly over to them I would have to isolate there for two weeks, but I can’t afford to take two weeks off work (self employed). If they fly over here they get their corona benefit money stopped for two weeks, which they are relying on. But they seem to be allowed to drive to the north with no issues.

Please be kind - I’ve stuck religiously to the rules so far and won’t do anything that’s not allowed. Just exploring the possibilities, and am so confused by all the guidance.

This says 6 people from 2 households in N.I so as long as you fit that then go for it Flowers

Thank you, it would just be four of us from two households so it does look like it’s allowed! It feels like I would be bending the rules somehow, but I can’t find any reason it’s explicitly not ok so maybe I’ll just go for it!

Its totally fine, as long as you social distance, and I am sorry for your loss Flowers I hope you get to spend some good time with your family.

Do it, you won't be breaking any guidelines that I can see & it sounds like you could really do with some friendly faces.

We're going to visit my Mum in October half term assuming no rule changes as my dc don't count in the rule of 6 there, whereas she can't come here because they do.

You know theres outbreaks in Belfast area and some restrictions in place.

Fly to Ireland and stay in their house and you're not breaking any rules as you are quarantining.
You don't need to stay for 2 weeks.
