not sure if it is a good idea?

I am struggling with pubs and restaurant thing. I've only been once, with a group of 4 others. The pub felt very safe, in that we were well away from other customers, but there's no doubt that the five of us, sat around the table, were too close, much closer than I would be to colleagues at work (school).

I think I would have gone with colleagues until this week but having seen the fall out from a local school where a department's staff all have to isolate because they were together at a social event, I think it's probably irresponsible, though I hadn't seen it that way before.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 13/09/2020 16:08

it does feel irresponsible,
it would not be allowed during working hours.

No, we are strictly adhering to SD though with friends and family so only meet where that can be done. Whilst I enjoy the odd meal out, we haven’t bothered since the virus and can’t see us doing so for a good while yet.

Egghead68 · 13/09/2020 16:17

The extremely clinically vulnerable person shouldn’t go as they are supposed to be keeping social contacts low.

If you are in England the rest of you can go as long as you socially distance.

Is it a good idea though? No

God I’ve been meeting people for meals since pubs opened back in June

Groups or upto 6 at least 3-4 times a week either in pub or do meal or in someone’s house

No distancing at all but then we all work in jobs were we can’t distance

To be honest I don’t know anyone who’s still distancing

My workplace has put measures in place but too many staff to actually follow them and no one is scared enough to complain🤷‍♀️

Hmm, anyone see a cause and effect?
BlueJava · 13/09/2020 16:21

But if there are more than 6 of you I don't believe you can in the UK?

insancerre · 13/09/2020 16:23

It’s all a bit ridiculous
I can spend all day at work with my colleagues, without sociallly distancing because it’s impossible
But I can’t go for a meal or the pub or invite them to my house?

& this folks is why numbers are increasing & laws are having to be made - because people cannot just follow the guidelines & act responsibly! FFS

I wouldn’t, but I’m currently having to isolate along with my DH and 3 children (and parents in law, though they are in another house). All because we went for a family birthday meal out and there happened to be a positive Covid case confirmed soon afterwards, resulting in my kids not even managing a day back in school before we were all told to isolate by NHS test and trace. We are fine, over half way through and let’s face it the weather has been great. BUT the cost to my children is huge. My son is Y11 and really needs to be in school. My daughter is Y9 and was having huge anxiety about returning after 6 months which has now been exacerbated by this situation. My youngest is pre school, which means I’m not really able to work properly because she demands a lot of attention throughout the day and obviously has to be supervised.

It’s like lockdown, except we can’t even go out for a walk to break the monotony.

Was the meal worth it? No. And we’ve already decided that we can’t risk this again. Takeaway all the way from now on!

You need to weight up your personal risks vs benefits and make an informed choice.

Ginogineli · 13/09/2020 16:25

Simple

I don’t agree with distancing

At this rate we will be wearing masks forever

It seems no amount of deaths are acceptable for covid and that terrifies me more than virus

Thousands can die from other diseases and are acceptable deaths

Seems like now we be living this shit version of life until deaths are gone

Don’t mention vaccine as we still have thousands flu deaths each year with vaccine so it’s not going to solve it

Reader1984 · 13/09/2020 16:26

Yes

HunterHearstHelmsley · 13/09/2020 16:28

I'm going for a meal with two colleagues tomorrow. We are all working from offices sporadically but different offices in different parts of the country.

Willyoujustbequiet · 17/09/2020 21:56

No as its not allowed (north east)

But I wouldnt anyway

Willyoujustbequiet · 17/09/2020 21:57

Its just not worth 2 weeks in isolation

fluffi · 17/09/2020 22:05

No, I wouldn't. Pretty difficult to sit far apart at a restuarant table - not worth the risk.

FWIW pre-covid we would go to lunch, dinners and drinks together.

TotorosFurryBehind · 17/09/2020 22:05

I wish my colleagues wanted to go out for dinner. I am lonely as hell.

Pomegranatepompom · 17/09/2020 23:31

No, we’ve been informed we shouldn’t (nhs) We can’t have whole teams isolating.

Inkpaperstars · 18/09/2020 02:56

No, especially If you would be less distanced than at work. Unecessary risk, not worth taking.

yeOldeTrout · 18/09/2020 15:45

I'd leap at the opportunity to have meal out with colleagues.
