Have the new restrictions made you take stock?

Are you one of the (majority of) people who followed all the rules to the best of their ability/understanding and has been enjoying getting back to normal, seeing more people, being out and about more?

Has the need to introduce additional restrictions made you take a step back and think about what are are doing and what you should/need to be doing?

For example, most of my social interactions wouldn't be outside of the new rules anyway but they have been becoming more frequent and I'm now thinking, with increasing case numbers, maybe I need to take a step back and be more selective.

The government have in many ways been a shambles but I don't think they'd be introducing this unpopular move unless they felt there was a genuine need to do so. Whilst I'm technically allowed to run with 5 friends this morning, see GPs for a picnic this afternoon then have some people round for a BBQ later (if the rules were already effective) perhaps it's better not to?

Or, it's within the rules, it's fine?

I think it's laughable that the same government that is telling us there are "acceptable" ways to break the law, and it's ok to break the law in "limited" ways etc etc, actually expects people to obey this law change.

You appear to have more faith in them making sound decisions than me.

SimpleComforts · 13/09/2020 15:55

I'm afraid I'm beyond "greater good" now but I still want to protect me and mine, whilst still being able to actually live, if that's possible.

I think it depends on each person individually. The older generation and those who had medicals that didn’t go out at all for over 3 months, felt good that they were told they could start going out. Those like my family who have had a stay in hospital with operation having to isolate due to having no immunity and there are those who it hasn’t affected at all and want to get out and about, go on holidays and make up for lost times. There’s no easy way around this pandemic, we just have to do what we are told and hope to see the light at the end of it.

TheLastStarfighter · 13/09/2020 16:07

I’ve barely done anything anyway.

I was really pleased when the 3 mile (or was it 5?) rule was lifted in Scotland because it meant I could go for a walk somewhere different.

I enjoyed getting my hair cut.

As someone who had been shielding I have enjoyed just being able to pop into a shop every so often.

I miss going for a coffee. I know I could go, but it just feels weird at the moment.

It would feel strange to have people round for dinner, have a barbecue, go to the gym etc. I just wouldn’t enjoy it just now. I’m very much looking forward to doing it when we are not in a pandemic.

Currently isolating awaiting results of DS’s test so can’t do anything just now anyway.

We’ve been keeping our risk as low as possible so not been to social places and were never in groups bigger than six so it won’t impact on us at all.

Miss a few things that we could do but deem not worth the risk but I’ve made sure we have plenty to do at home and nice food/treats.

I've seen a bit of family and friends.
I didn't eat out to help out. I haven't been shopping or to any other indoor spaces that require a mask other than in a supermarket twice since 24th July..

I feel like we've done enough. I will happily stay out of busy indoor spaces but the children need to be able to see their friends and us, ours.

It's the rising cases that have made me take stock Sad we have been very quiet already, so the new restrictions don't change much.

I'm really sad today, the numbers in some areas quite near us look to be getting out of control.

SimpleComforts · 13/09/2020 16:54

I think that's what I meant really RisingSwan, but the new restrictions have drawn attention to the rising numbers.

The rising cases have made us take stock. We've cancelled the kids rugby and ballet. Won't be going out for meals. Lmwont be having friends over for Indian summer bbq's this week.

I want to do everything I possibly can to keep the kids in school.

RepeatSwan · 13/09/2020 17:07

I'm feeling quite wobbly about school itself tbh. I think I have a week before our area's cases are up to the levels near by. And then I don't know what to do.

Helenj1977 · 13/09/2020 17:13

Yes and the case increase.

We were in London last weekend and it felt like normal, bar the face masks.

I'll be sticking to the rules even though we're a family of 5. I'm also going to start prepping again 😢

Not really. I’ve been out & about living life over summer. I’ve followed some rules & not others. I’ve taken what I feel to be a balance of risk v mental health & wellbeing. I’ve been busy trying to make the most of life since June with friends & family, not particularly distanced but never in large groups & predominantly outside. I don’t much care about how weird life is to me, I just want my daughter to hopefully not really notice & have fun. And she really has. We’ve actually had to think harder about things to do & explored all around us. It’s been a nice summer. I intend to do the same in Autumn/Winter. It won’t be as easy admittedly but again, I just want my daughter to enjoy life. We’ll don our waterproofs & hit the outdoors. We’ve got an Autumn holiday planned with family (6 of us), we can do our own Halloween & bonfire night. We’ve got lots of Christmas outdoor activities planned.

I’m just praying nursery stays open as it’s her fav thing to do!

SimpleComforts · 13/09/2020 17:15

I have to admit, while I'm not really a prepper, I have checked stock of non perishables this week. It does feel like it's coming.

It doesn't affect me, I am not a party animal and I only have a small family. Running is exempt as a sporting activity, but actually I've been going out in groups of 6 or fewer anyway, because I've complied with the guidance all along.

I have started stockpiling again but that's for the end of the Brexit transition period, not this. Though I popped into a leisure centre today to use the loo and had to leave my details for track and trace even though I was in there less than 5 minutes, so I suppose I should make sure we have plenty of food in case one of us is asked to isolate.
