Child 1 reception age, went back to school last week, snotty nose on Friday (school said ok to send her as no temp), developed into heavy cold over weekend but no temp or cough. She does however now have diarrhea. Child 2, toddler went back to preschool last week. Has not caught cold, woke up yesterday with snotty nose & his asthma has flared up so he is coughing lots (controllable by inhaler). No temp either. Do we self isolate based on these symptoms. Did look into getting a test but absolutely impossible.

I would say not if it is his usual cough, which he gets with asthma.

I think they say that on the advice, it’s something like a change/ worsening of your usual cough???

Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 14:16

No. No need to test or isolate in these circumstances.

Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 14:17

If cough being controlled by asthma drugs it’s most likely triggered that rather than being Covid.

Use these and a bit of common sense. ;)

NHS guidance here:

If you live with someone who has developed a new cough you should all self isolate.

Hmmph · 13/09/2020 14:17

Child 1 shouldn’t be going anywhere within 48 hrs of having diarrhoea!

CONTINUOUS COUGH.

Thanks all. I agree common sense is key & obviously child 1 won’t go anywhere until dodgy tummy is 48 hours clear. Child 2 ALWAYS gets a cough with a cold, it’s a trigger for his asthma. So my gut says it’s just usual back to school bugs, but then you worry you’re not doing the right thing by not all sticking at home for 14 days and/or getting tested (which is an impossibility anyway, what are they doing for those who genuinely need a test).

I should also add, coughing child’s cough calms down with his blue inhaler.
