www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-8706711/Singing-Happy-Birthday-spread-Covid-19-new-study-warns.html

To understand how many virus particles are emitted when we sing, researchers had 12 healthy singers and two people with Covid-19 sing into a funnel.

The study shows that singing – particularly loud and consonant-rich singing found in songs like Happy Birthday – spreads a lot droplets into the surrounding air.

Researchers say if singers wear a face mask and venues practice social distancing and implement good ventilation, then the risk from singing can be reduced.

How will I be able to wash my hands if I am not allowed to sing happy birthday?

This is old news now - www.classicfm.com/music-news/coronavirus/singing-no-more-risky-than-talking-spreading-covid-19-study/ This contradicts the "wear a face mask while singing" advice, which could only have been written by someone who isn't a singer!

I’ve been wondering about drama. Dd isn’t doing choir but is doing drama at school. I would have thought speaking loudly and projecting your voice for drama would spread the virus more though

Projecting your voice is not the same thing as speaking loudly. If he is doing the projection correctly, there should be virtually no increase in his decibel range. If there is then getting a sore throat from shouting is a bigger risk!

Researchers fail to use common sense yet again I see. Singing is one of those activities in which wearing a face mask is impractical (because the words would be mumbled amongst other reasons) so it makes no sense to even consider the impact of masks in such situations.
