Horrible taste in mouth not loss of taste

Hello,

I just wanted your opinions please. My sense of taste has been off for a few days now. I can’t say I’ve lost taste, but I have a permanent horrible sour taste that I can’t get rid of. My sense of smell is fine. I am otherwise fine just very tired.

Would you get a test? I know tests are in short supply so I don’t want to get one if I don’t need it. I can’t decide if I’m overreacting as like I said I haven’t lost the sense of taste completely... it’s just a really horrible sour taste. I’ve tried to get rid of it with enhanced tooth brushing, mints etc but unfortunately it won’t go.

What would you do?

No pine nuts as not a fan of them. Will
get my husband to get a pregnancy test for me and if it’s negative and (the taste persists) I’ll try and get a Covid test tomorrow. I’ve just fallen asleep for over an hour again. I feel so lazy Blush

No I would not get a taste in this scenario

The NHS protocol is to self isolate until you know and book a test:

If you experience symptoms

You can also get it from a mouth infection like a new cold sore virus

Yes they classify a change in taste as a symptom here.

Sorry tried to quote you in the last message. The NHS link does classify change in taste as a symptom.

I had this back in February along with a cough. I could smell and taste but my mouth felt and tasted horrible

That’s why I’ll send my husband for the pregnancy test and I will stay at home. I’ll speak to a healthcare professional about the change in taste and see what they advise but it definitely states loss or change in smell / taste on website. I have suffered from indigestion and heart burn in the past so I know what that feels like.. this isn’t that. It’s very bizarre. It’s a really sour manky taste.

@Ethelfleda

No, don’t get a test. You don’t have any of the main symptoms.

Yes she does!!

It's not just loss of taste, it's ALSO significant change of taste

Symptoms
The most important symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following:

a new continuous cough
a high temperature
a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
For most people, COVID-19 will be a mild illness. However, if you have any of the symptoms above, stay at home and arrange to have a test to see if you have COVID-19 – go to testing

@SeekingCoffee33

See above. You need to book a test.

I'm impressed you got a test booked reasonably quickly.

What area are you in? How far away is the test site?

They've taken our nearest one away. A friend just had to go 60 miles for one. (SE)

I had a weird metallic taste and felt tired a week before my Covid symptoms ramped up. Good luck Hope all is OK.

@MJMG2015 I’m in East Midlands. We have three test sites in our large town but I assume they are full. The one I’ve got to go to isn’t that far. About ten miles away.

@Kitcat122 I’m praying that it’s negative!

Friend who had Covid had a strange taste in her mouth all the time, and tiredness. I am glad you are getting tested in the morning OP, it does sound possible that it could be Covid.

I’m quite perplexed. There was only three of us at the test centre. It was very quiet. Why is there such an issue getting tests when lots of people (myself included now) are saying the centre wasnt busy at all? Confused

Just a waiting game now
