And my 6 year old has woken up today with a runny nose already! Anyone elses DC got the start of a cold coming? My son's immune system is pretty rubbish so he picks up any and every bug out there and is always unwell after the 1st week back at school.

Yep. Mine has. Not even a full week just 2 staggered half days

DS had a bit of a stuffy nose this week. No Covid symptoms though so I've sent him in, I'm not keeping him off for a mild cold.

Well it was always going to happen. Our immune systems are shot after months of lockdown and social distancing.

My DD(5) started with a runny nose after a week back - no covid symptoms so sent her in but then she developed a fever & cough (as have I) so we are now isolating & both got tested yesterday.

I’m 99% sure it’s a cold but obviously need to know for sure before she can go back to school.

This will be happening in schools up & down the country.

Did anyones schools make an issue of them going in with a cold. I'm new to this whole school thing and guidance from the school has been fairly vague.

Shitfuckoh · 12/09/2020 17:12

1 of our schools to begin with said children to be kept off with cold symptoms - this included sniffles.
They changed it within 3 days of school going back.
Thursday morning my 6 yo started with sniffles - I sent him in as it was literally just sniffles.
Friday, his older brother started with them.
Today, his younger sibling & myself have woken up with a cold. Youngest has a constant running nose. I have a sore throat, runny nose & I just feel bleh.

Yes, almost every child in our primary school has a cold. Those with temperatures and coughs are being tested. No covid cases yet.

MumOfTwoBoyssss · 12/09/2020 22:06

In my area there's not many covid cases, it's extremely low, so I'm 99% sure DS has a cold, he's just only come over with a temperature with his snotty nose and his tonsils are huge, no cough, he says he can still taste everything and smell everything, obviously this is the time of year where nearly every child will catch a cold.
Thanks everyone for your responses
Very interesting to see all different sides
I wonder how schools react to a cold, will they send kids home for sneezing and a temp? But to be honest I don't send my son to school with a temperature he stays in bed and sleeps it off with some Calpol.

So he now has a temp?
It's any of the 3 symptoms to fever needs a test

MumOfTwoBoyssss · 12/09/2020 22:32

There's no tests available

My ds has had a cold for a week but none of the main 3 symptoms so no test. His whole class seem to have caught the same cold.
Bound to happen after so long at home and not around so many viruses.

SamsMumsCateracts · 13/09/2020 00:12

Yep, both of mine are full of cold, as have most of their classes and teachers. I honestly thought it'd take a bit longer before the germs started spreading again. Thankfully neither has had a temperature or other COVID symptoms, but keeping a very close eye.

Our school has acknowledged that there is a cold going around and has said that if the child just has a snotty nose or sore throat that they can go into school, but if any of the three main symptoms of Covid appear, or if the child feels poorly, that they are to stay home and test when necessary.
