Hi everyone. I was feeling particularly hot earlier and decided to take my temperature(Even though not feeling ill) and it was 37.9. I've sat by the window and it's gone down to 37.4. Would this be something to worry about, I have no idea what my normal temp is but wanted to be extra cautious with the kids back at school

I'd not be worried (and I have health anxiety).
The fact it's come down with no intervention-tablets is a good sign.

findingschools4myboys · 11/09/2020 13:42

I had COVID in March and I remember taking my temperature when I felt hot and it was also exactly 37.9.
Unfortunately mine did dip down to low mid 37 and stayed like that throughout my illness. I didn’t have much fever.

EasterBuns · 11/09/2020 13:47

My School says if anyone in the household has a temperature of 37 or higher to self isolate the whole household for 14 days unless you subsequently test negative.

wherestheotherone · 11/09/2020 13:50

No I'd not be worried. Id watch my symptoms and try to avoid people but I'd not test and isolate unless it kept changing or was high. High is 37.8 and above

Thank you for the replys, I just feel really hot which is not like me! Will keep an eye on it

A temperature of 37 is normal body temperature. I would only start worrying over 38 and feeling unwell.

I think about 36.6 is more normal. If my temp goes over 37, I have fever symptoms.

yeOldeTrout · 11/09/2020 14:41

I wouldn't have anyway of knowing that was the number. In my world, someone is either 'normal' or 'too hot'. I couldn't tell 1 degree apart from 'normal'.

dementedpixie · 11/09/2020 15:55

37 is an average body temperature. 37.8⁰C and over is a high temperature

ManiPediNow · 11/09/2020 15:58

Here (Singapore) no-one is allowed into buildings, establishments, schools etc. above 37.5.

You have a fever. Get a test. If you sat at a window of course it came down!
neveradullmoment99 · 11/09/2020 16:57

Anything over 37.5 is a fever.

dementedpixie · 11/09/2020 17:01

I have just looked on nhs and it says a fever in children is over 37.5⁰C but in adults its over 37.8⁰C. For covid purposes they seem to say fever is over 37.8⁰C

DeliciouslyFemale · 11/09/2020 17:05

That is a temperature, OP and the fact that you feel hot would suggest you might be coming down with something. It would help if you knew what your normal temperature runs at. My husband always had a naturally lower temperature and when it went to 37.6 I had to fight his corner to get him tested, while he was in hospital with another matter. He had a urine infection.

Adirondack · 11/09/2020 17:14

Yes that is a fever, and you should be isolating and booking a test.
Quite shocked at the amount of people on this thread saying it’s fine and not to worry!!
The guidance is VERY CLEAR: new or continuous cough, loss of taste or smell, or temperature: isolate and test.
Of course temperatures come down if you sit by a window! But the fact is you had a fever. Please get tested- the R rate is now over 1.

dementedpixie · 11/09/2020 17:17

Have you checked your temperature recently? Is it still elevated?

dementedpixie · 11/09/2020 17:17

and good luck getting a test if thats what you decide!! They are in short supply by the looks of other threads

My temperature is usually 37.4!!

That can’t possibly be right?
CandleWick4 · 11/09/2020 17:21

In response to the OP, yes if my temp was 37.9 I would consider that a temp and would be booking a test.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 11/09/2020 17:24

My temperature peaks and dips with my cycle each month. I personally class anything over 38° as a temperature for myself. But I'm aware I run 'hot'.

As others have said for adults over 37.8° is classed by the NHS as a fever/temperature.

niceupthedance · 11/09/2020 17:25

When I was ill my face felt hot but I didn't have a fever above 37.8. In fact I had chills rather than fever (have had positive antibody test)

molifly14 · 11/09/2020 17:27

37 is my normal body temperature, i would go with anything over 38 as a concern

Bupkis · 11/09/2020 17:30
