Have I overreacted? 3 year old

My dc has woken with a temperature - I've booked a test but now I'm wondering if I've overreacted as it could be anything and it will be horrible for him (the test) but we are a large family at multiple schools and dc who is poorly attends nursery so could potentially infect lots of people.
What would you have done?

You did the right thing, as uncomfortable as the test may be. Glad you had a negative result Smile

UpToonGirl · 12/09/2020 16:31

@Torvean32 he had both a temperature and a bad cough, why would I not get him tested? I didn't get tested as I have bo symptoms.

UpToonGirl · 12/09/2020 16:31

*no

UpToonGirl · 12/09/2020 16:33

Oh, in reference to us both getting negatives I meant my DC and op's Dc, if that's what you're questioning.

anothernamereally · 12/09/2020 23:37

@AmelieTaylor 37.7 which while slightly below the gov guideline is very high for him as he has a low temperature when well, I have a lower than average temp too.
The nhs guidelines for the test say 'hot to touch' rather than a specific temperature

I wasn't saying you'd over reacted Btw. You asked what I'd do, so that's what I replied with

So pleased he got a negative result so quickly.

37,7 I'd have booked a test too.

They do say 'hot to touch' but i prefer to take a temperature & when you know regular baselines on the same thermometer it's a good guide.

How's he feeling today?

DC that was isolating on Friday, her classmate got a negative test result yesterday. So they're all back in Monday, but with the % of false negatives I'm not sure the unwell child should be back in Covid wise it's just general 'bugs' wise. They have an excellent online provision, so if she was mine, she'd be staying home & doing that - 'just in case!

Winter is going to be a right bloody nightmare isn't it!

My friend, her DH & their 3 kids all work/go to school (different schools at that). She has been told there's a limit on how many (isolating) days they can take!! She's also in a broom cupboard small office with 3 others who all have kids at other schools & spouses with public facing jobs. She's a bit vulnerable too, so it's going to be awful. They've already had teachers & students off.

Sorry i misread you. No issue with you testing your son.
UpToonGirl · 13/09/2020 20:43

@Torvean32 I misread you too. I'm wound a little tight at the moment. Kids have only been back a few days and they're off, I was expecting it but not so soon. My 9 year old hadn't been in school since March and he was so happy to be back and now he's off because of his brother having what I'm sure is a cold! Still waiting for results so not holding out much hope for tomorrow now.

Btw I know a lot of us are in the same/similar situations I'm just moaning now!

anothernamereally · 13/09/2020 23:37

@AmelieTaylor sorry I'm a bit touchy today - lots going on
He's ok, still got a temp but is snotty now and clearly has a cold - I will keep him home tomorrow as he's still coughing but I'm due back at work on Tuesday after 6 months at home so i really hope he's well enough by then.
Winter is as you say going to be a nightmare

@UpToonGirl I hope your results come soon!

Test result (negative) back this afternoon, at least only two days of school missed as it was over the weekend.
