Does DD need a test?

DD5 always gets a croaky voice when she is tired, has done since she was tiny.

Went back to school last week and has gradually been getting more and more worn out over the last few days. Today she has woken up with a snotty nose and a really croaky voice. She doesn't seem to have a temperature and isn't complaining of any other symptoms. To complicate things I'm 7 months pregnant.

Does she need a Covid test? If she does I will happily drive her down for it, but after seeing all the stuff in the news about people unnecessarily taking up tests stopping people that actually need them getting one I do t want to waste anyone's time.

No. She doesn't have any of the three symptoms to get a test for.

Continuous cough
Fever
Loss of smell / taste

She has now just said her back hurts and her bones hurt. Keeping an eye on her this morning and I have kept her off of school anyway so will see how she goes today. Thank you for responding!

No- a major reason for the current shortage of testing capacity is people like you who ignore the guidance on criteria for testing.

rollonnovember · 11/09/2020 09:45

I havent ignored the criteria for testing, I've asked if she would need a test, because I dont want to take her if she doesn't need to. But thanks for the really constructive reply! Bet your a real Joy to spend time with!

ODFOD Covidity, there was no need for that reply.

Try having to turn people who should be getting a test and can’t get one away! Not fun...

rollonnovember · 11/09/2020 09:50

Which is why I ASKED if she needed one, and didn't just go booking one. People like you will also be the reason why people that do need a test don't get one! Good job!

BTW don’t just turn up at a test site- they used to generally allow you to register there and then but you absolutely need a pre-booked slot in the system now. They will turn you away and ask you to go home and register.

jessstan2 · 11/09/2020 09:53

No, it sounds as though she may have a cold. Going back to school is very tiring.

covidity · 11/09/2020 09:54

I think the guidance is pretty clear- no need to ask, just encourages unnecessary testing.

I hope your DC recovers from her cold quickly.

SquishySquirmy · 11/09/2020 10:00

She doesn't need a test unless she develops a temperature or cough.
Hope she feels better soon poor thing!

Biscuit for covidity.
The OP is NOT the reason why people who need a test cant get one. There is a huge overlap in normal cold symptoms and Covid symptoms- any idiot could have foreseen that demand would increase once kids started swopping regular germs at school again. Sticking swabs into wriggly young children is not fun for parents - they are not doing this for shits and giggles or to piss you off. Most are trying to do the right thing to protect the teachers and the families of their classmates!
You would have thought that preparations would be made to ensure the capacity was there for this entirely predictable increase in demand. The daily number of tests performed is still well below the official capacity the government boasted about.

But hey, far more fun to blame worried parents trying to do the right thing than the incompetenents running this shit show, right?

This might be worth a read Op.

covidity · 11/09/2020 10:28

You’ve illustrated the problem perfectly there, Notonthestairs, people read MSM, social media, listen to friends etc. rather than following government guidance.

There is a ‘scientific study’ and competing scientist reported somewhere in the media for every possible symptom, treatment and outcome of COVID-19. Relatively few people are sufficiently scientifically literate to evaluate their significance, that’s the job of SAGE.

So please, for the sake of those who really need a test, follow the government guidance - it’s pretty clear.
