‘No alcoholic hand gel allowed’ at secondary school!?

Just that really - my DCs have told me they aren’t allowed to bring their own hand gel with alcohol in it!

I am about to ring the school and clarify- but I think this is ridiculous and plain wrong! Apparently they are allowed antibac wipes (where will they put the used wipe??)

Interested what other schools doing and any official research/advice to schools

@bruffin

We place hand handsanitisers in public places and had to replace with non alcohol ones because of people drinking them. One many was badly affected by it
In a school ? That's shocking.

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito

I've worked in at least three secondary schools in which some numpty lads would try drinking it. Maybe they're trying to avoid that?
Plus the dangers of pupils self-harming Sad

Science practicals aren't happening in our school. Public exam requirements have been modified to allow watching a video of a practical instead.

DD was mocked in front of the class by the science teacher for using hand sanitiser in March!

I'd ask your dc which children were trying to drink it? Grin

Generally a rule like that is brought in with direct response to an inappropriate behaviour.

A colleague tasted some last week. Just a drop, probably not even enough to swallow. She was spitting and gagging for ages afterwards, and scrubbing at her mouth to get the taste out. She said she'd expected it to taste something like cheap vodka, but it was worse - the nastiest thing she'd ever tasted.

I expect the manufacturers would put something foul-tasting in alcoholic hand sanitiser to stop people drinking it.
