I'm just reading some of the articles published in the media today about antibodies disappearing after 1 month in CV patients and the headlines are all doom and gloom for vaccine etc.
However, I was thinking is this not good news?! If memory B cells can create antibodies when needed (so a 2nd infection doesn't happen or is much milder/asymptomatic) but antibodies don't stick around in the blood beyond a month then surely this means that the serology testing we've done which says "less than 10% have had this virus" is completely negated? Many, many more could have had this virus but when we did the serology studies they had already lost the antibodies (but not the immunity).
If we found antibodies stayed in the blood long term then our low 7% serology studies would hold more weight. Whereas this opens up the possibility of many more people having had it and if they encounter the virus then their B cells can spring to action and make more antibodies. What are your thoughts? Or am I reading this all wrong?
