DS has a mild cold, he’s sneezing and has a blocked nose but otherwise well in himself. No temp or cough. Obviously, he doesn’t have Covid symptoms and we don’t need to test. School have advised today though that children have to stay off if unwell for any reason. Does this count? I have no idea whether I should be sending him in tomorrow or not.

Our school has said not to keep them off for cold symptoms if they are feeling well in themselves.

Schools should not be forcing children to be off with colds when normally they’d be in learning! It’s going to cause so much disruption in a year that’s already going to be!

I have a DD in nursery & they have clarified that the only way to deal with all this is for children to be excluded & tested for the 3 main symptoms only. Runny noses, sneezing, snotty are fine. If kids are unwell & couldn’t join in with the activities or lethargic etc, then keep home. Our nursery have a 48 hour rule after a fever in normal time’s & it still applies even if you get a negative result in 24 hours. Children can return to nursery with ongoing coughs once they have tested negative..

Our school is sending children with colds home.

unchienandalusia · 10/09/2020 22:04

Our school with a v sensible head has reiterated the government messaging.

Keep them off for

Fever
Cough
Loss of taste and smell

Anything else is preposterous.

It depends on the region. It stated in the radio today that in Caerphilly they encourage to test everyone being unwell not necessary with the symptoms, but you are right that the national guidelines is different.

In Scotland there was a letter sent to us to advise about cold symptoms:

Thanks all. We’ve decided to keep him off. His forehead feels a bit warmer than usual, although the thermometer didn’t record a temperature. It’s really old though and I don’t trust it, so I’m keeping him off as a precaution. New thermometer is arriving tomorrow, if that records a temperature we will get tested.

Its the body you check to see if they're hot, not the forehead. Hope he stays without a temperature
