Sore throat/runny nose, test?

She has been back less than a full week and 5yoDD is already poorly (quite upset as she has a terrible immune system, I'm vulnerable and was strong armed in to sending her back) . She says she has a sore throat and runny nose and looks quite under the weather. She doesn't have any of the three key symptoms and would rather not contribute to the testing shortage if I don't have to.
I'm keeping her home tomorrow but should I also keep DS off/get a test?

No to test unless she has one of the main symptoms and i wouldn't keep sibling home.

Nope! Do not test & you don’t need to isolate anyone.

But I’m sure people will be along time tell you to do so.. hence why we have a shortage of tests!

If she starts coughing or a fever, test her. But there are hundreds of colds going around, it’s more than likely just one of the usual start of term illnesses!

Good god NO! Watch the news where it is quite clear that you should not be testing unless one of the three main symptoms are there. I can't beleive people need to ask this. It has been all over the news, in teh papers on social media. Why on earth do people turn to bloody Mumsnet for this information.

Give me strength.

Please don't test unless the symptoms are consistent. If you're at all unsure go through the nhs 111 online triage and it will tell you whether or not to isolate, and whether or not to test.

There are a lot of autumn colds doing the rounds. Testing is only for any of the 3 main symptoms. The issue is some children will get temperatures, coughs and lose their taste and smell with a cold. In that situation then they need to be testing.

My dc often has a temperature when she's unwell. I expect to be testing and isolating quite a few times.

Thanks all. I'll only request a test if she gets one of the three main symptoms.
